Are you using JAWS CaveFish? Admin should look into a javascript based chat, instead of flash.

is javascript image-based or text-based?

three of the forums i frequent use flashchat -- the same software as this site. not screen reader friendly.

the one chatroom software i know to be screen reader friend is ajax. is that javascript based? sorry i don't know much about computer software.

Well technically it could be either. Flash just can't be text based because it's an image based technology. Javascript allows the processing to happen on the client side (the main advantage of flash) and also allows great compatibility without relying on crappy plugins like flash.

Hmm. I will have to test JAWS with TTL sometime. No mac support though. I'm on a mac as well, good to see someone else with one :)

all right thanks so much. lostmyfuture, if you use a mac you do not need to waste money on jaws! simply go to:

finder > applications > system preferences > universal access > voice over. then toggle switch to voice over on.

you can also just use the shortcut key, which is command + F5.
