Default Time to Stop Therapy?

My therapist often gives me advice that makes me confused, constantly change my mind, and be less stable. I think she means well but I don't go there advice but for support.

She seems to want me to be this happy, hippie dippie free spirit who's Zen like about conflict and takes everything in stride. Yeah, in a perfect world! Besides, I hear voices!

She told me to go with the flow, that it's okay switch labels, why limit yourself. I don't like switching labels and my bf is right that if you keep switching labels, you're confused. I feel like that's just going in circles, not making progress. Today is the first day in 15 YEARS that I've felt like I made ANY progress. And it has almost NOTHING to do with my therapist.

I think it's time to move on. Agree?

That's a real difficult topic to discuss,sensual..if you believe therapy is necessary and helps you further in life then go for it..if it's only talking and trying to tell you things which you personally see no benefit in for your own,then don't...support and advice are different things maybe,but the wrong advice counteracts the best support...supporting someone means you see a persons dilemma's and problems,but one does not judge or give the(wrong)advice..one accepts...a happy hippie dippie,you say?if you tell us that today was the first time in 15 years that you made progress...then we ALL say to you==well done,sensual..moving on is an easy sentence sometimes,reality is different because moving on means personal determination,self discipline and insight in oneself..me myself i do not know what therapy is about...I’m not against therapy..I say if i go to a restaurant and they give me a lousy meal...i will avoid that restaurant in the future,is it not? No,you shouldn’t stay in therapy that isn’t helping you either then,but that's a personal issue..there are millions of people who are in therapy and i think without therapy the world would look rather bleak for the ones who need it,appreciate it,and say to themselves==it helped me out of some shit..isn't giving support to TTL members here...a kind of therapy which helps or can help a lot?

I canceled my appointment with the therapist indefinitely.

That's the thing about therapy. I think you can get to this weird point where you have to ask yourself, do I actually need it? I got to that point too. I started feeling obligated to attend sessions on account of loyalty, but I didn't actually need it anymore. I haven't needed it since. I can usually figure out my problems by asking myself now.

If you feel you need to go back, there is no shame in that either. Just saying, that happened to me too.

I agree! I don't think this therapist is right for you or has done you any favors. Therapists are just as varied as are any other professional. When you find the right one, you know and you get the help you are looking for and need.
It was time for you to move on, I'm so glad you did!

Moving on and skipping therapy can be a strenght...or a weakness..
people into therapy need in the first place advice,mental support which tells them to live their life with lesser problems then before therapy...i am not so much into internet podcasts,we all know the negative influence an internet addiction can inflict upon people who are vulnerable to critisism,non recognition,low esteem bla bla...i would say to the OP here==continue therapy...if you think it does not help you anymore then stop it,if a therapist tells us about our weak points then we often retreat and say..oh...no more therapy...it's avoidant behaviour,nobody likes to listen if people point out weak points ...i say..it can be therapy to accept weak points and do something about it instead of saying maybe...i have a disorder and there is no cure....the cure is very often within ourselves.
acceptance,toleration,and the willpower and determination which we often lack in life..
i say...therapy,helplines etc...are necessary for people who need it..
