Talking Completely overcome depression - this is how I did it! And you can too :)

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my therapy with you. Itís a special kind of therapy, one that helped me to completely overcome depression, and I really hope that it might also help one of you!

So here is how I did it:
1. Kill any depressive thought.
As fast as possible. Every time.
2. Find a life project.
It could be anything: learn another language, learn photography, build furniture by yourself, become an expert in history, become an expert cook, etc. Find something you love and every time a negative thought forms, kill it by thinking about your project. Plan it, improve it and do it.

In the beginning, it will be hard. You will either forget or not be able to kill negativity, but persist. It will work! It worked for me!

In case you are wondering, my project was to build a website. It helped me so much just because I was able to occupy my mind with learning new stuff (and there was sooo much to learn; I was a complete dummy) and because I constantly had to think how I was going to do my project and what direction I wanted to take. There was and there still is room for improvement, so I had to think about that and not about negative thoughts.

Try my two steps! Letís encourage each other in this thread!

How do you kill thoughts?

Having a life project is good advice, but how do you find things you like enough to learn them?

Where do you get the confidence that you can pursuit this project of yours to completion?

And how do you solve finding learning what you need difficult?

To kill a negative thought, you need a plan. I planned 3 things that I could think about as soon as I had a negative thought:
1. Think about my project
2. Start enumerating nice stuff that happened throughout the day, starting from when I woke up. (No matter how depressed you are, you can find positiveness, you just have to think hard.)
3. Start signing the lyrics of a song in my head or hum a melody.

Thatís just fooling the brain because it cannot think about 2 things in the same time ;)

Yup, thatís not easy to do, youíre right. But the whole point of learning is so that it keeps you from being negative and depressive. So finding something that you like could be a project in itself. Take that as a challenge.

That is what I suggest you do: think about what you already like and search the Internet about these subjects. You will maybe find a website or a community that will inspire you. That will give you more ideas and will motivate you.

A project always has obstacles and moments of discouragement. Maybe it will not even be possible to complete the project, but it is not what matters. I will just tell you one thing: force yourself to never give up, even through difficulties. Do you know how strong that will make you in the long term? Always tell yourself that: every hardship is an opportunity to change your way of thinking and becoming a stronger person. Seize it!

Last thing: I find it really important to talk to someone who understands you. But hey, if thatís not possible, thatís okay! Iím here; weíre all here to give you a little confidence push, help you find a project and keeping it up!

Number two. Best advice I've ever been given by the few people that care about me. Finding something to pursue in life and feel good about is a cure in itself. I'm just still stuck in that stage of finding what I want to do haha, so don't worry nobodyhelpsme you're not the only one that's clueless..

I'm not clueless personally, I was asking generally. I know what I like, but I don't feel confident it is worth pursuing anymore because I think I'll always be mediocre comparing to the thousands and thousands of young people who learn very easily.

That's what you think but you always have your own unique spin on it. Take something you like to do and twist it up, do something with it nobody else has done. You don't have to be the best

Completely agree with Knowlop! Take your own experience and what you have been through to make something new and different. I think that it is not the ability to learn fast that leads to success, but what you do and how you use the acquired knowledge.
You said that you know what you like. Don’t’ do it only because you want to be the best, just ENJOY IT!

Knowlop, start with something, anything! It could be something pretty small, meanwhile you’re thinking about a bigger goal. It will give you the satisfaction of knowing that everyday you make a little step further towards your goal…plus you never know where it might take you!

I have this weird problem with not being able to get fixated on something :p I'm afraid if I get too stuck into something I won't like it anymore (which sometimes happens) and all that time spent will just be useless. I really don't know what to do..

How does one force oneself to do things? There will be conflicting thoughts in a person's mind and that conflict has to be resolved before the person is in a good state of mind to be able to pursuit their goals. Otherwise they will be giving up.
