I see a counselor once a week at school. She is very nice, and I voice my problems to her. The way I deal with my problems is by simply ignoring them but when I acknowledge them I become very emotional and start to cry. When this happens, I am usually talking to my counselor, who feels my pain too.

To me, this is a sign of sincerity, and feel relaxed knowing that there is someone who cares about me in the slightest bit.

I can see why people feel connection but I don't believe that is the primary role of a counselor, psychologist, etc. These connections are best in place when they are family and friends. Professionals, at least in my opinion, should not show an extreme emotion like crying or anger.

When I cried in therapy, my psychologist had a pained look on his face..full of sorrow for me. While he didn't cry, I knew he really cared for me. I think crying oversteps that professional boundary.
I don't see anything wrong with a therapist crying or showing empathy towards their patients. Knowing that someone else truly cares for you can make a huge difference in how you feel. I think lot of people suffer because they don't have that kind of connection in their personal relationships. I'm not a fan of the cold, emotionally disconnected approach encouraged in the health care industry. Like, I wish it was ok to get a hug from my therapist. Why isn't that a thing yet? I guess I'll just have to see an escort for that, lol. But seriously, people underestimate the importance of compassion and physical intimacy.

Anger and judgment are definitely inappropriate responses though.
