The only time during my week when I can forget about the negative thoughts, anxieties etc is when I'm involved in sport.
I watch my local football (soccer) team regularly, and I play organised football/soccer regularly too. For those two hours when I'm playing or watching I can't focus on any of the negative things in my head. I have to be fully immersed in it and then the negative stuff can't get in.
When I was at school and having a difficult time, Saturday afternoon football was the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Something to focus on.
It's my escape and it's a really powerful thing.
