Default mountain biking / cycling

Are there any other mountain bikers or cyclists out there. I'm training for an endurance event in late summer but as I've never done this sort of thing before, I'm looking for advice on training or just general support.

I aim to ride my mountain bike across the Alps, covering about 400km and climbing roughly 10,000m in 7-8 day.

Wow! That's incredible. 4 friends of mine rode from john o grotes to lands end, bout a 1000 miles. Done it in nine days, but they were on the road and on racers.
They said that the 2 biggest problems were blisters and breakdowns. To get around the blisters you can soak your feet in mentholated spirits to give you super tough skin. As for the breakdowns make sure you can repair your own bike quickly and carry some light tools and stuff like spare innertubes and brake /gear cable.

I used to to a bit of amature single track in the woods. But my bike got stolen and I couldn't afford to replace it. I had a kona stinky, loved that bike :(
Good luck mate!

Oh and another thing.... Don't do it alone

Didn't think blisters would be an issue when riding a bike, but now you mention it...

Don't worry, this is not a trip I would EVER consider doing alone. I'll be going with a group.
