Final score:

Brazil 0 - Portugal 0

It was a poor game played by 2 teams who had already qualified for the next stage of the competition. One of the worst games that I have seen so far.

Korea DPR 0 - Ivory Coast 3

The former did not deserve to be in S. Africa, when I consider the good sides left watching on TV at home.

Chile 1 - Spain 2

Great opportunist goal by Villa from a long way out following another goal keeper moment of madness running outside his goal area only to make a poor clearance. Spain manage to top the group after surprisingly losing the first game to the Swiss.

Honduras 0 - Switzerland 0

Did not see any of this game, but I know that Switzerland blew it. After defeating the Spaniards they should have been able to beat the Central Americans. Tough luck...both Chile and Spain qualify.

That's the end of the group phase.

NOW THE REAL WORLD CUP BEGINS.

Uruguay 2 - Republic of Korea 1

Inevitably, the cream of World football (South America) march on to the QFs.

Ghana 2 - USA 1

This one went to extra time, with USA just missing out. Shame both teams could not advance to the next round as they both embody what I like in the WC. Both sides were unfancied by the so-called pundits, but gave their all in playing attractive, attacking football.

Even when Ghana were a few minutes away few minutes away from advancing to the competitions next stage they kept going forward to try to score...no running the ball to the corner flag and trying to waste time like I have seen done by many well known household names playing for other more fancied nations. No, they were more sporting than that. Both teams showed a pride in wearing their country's jersey shown by the glee from the dancing Africans when the final whistle went, coupled with the tears and bowed heads of the vanquished Americans. The Yanks had nothing to be ashamed of as they brought nothing but joy and entertainment to the neutral onlooker such as myself. Better days definitely lie ahead for football in the USA after the character displayed by this fighting team in WC 2010.

England 1 - Germany 4

The Germans win the battle of these 2 old rivals. It's a strange German team as on board they have 2 Poles, a Turk, a Ghanian and a Brazilian.
England should have had an equalising 2nd goal as a Frank Lampard chip hit the German bar and clearly came down behind the goal line for what was a definite goal. The linesman did not see it. The modern technology should be used in such cases, but as the Republic of Ireland found out with it's game against France, FIFA does not want to know.

Argentina 3 - Mexico 1

Another game not without controversy as the Tevez first goal was clearly offside. I still think that Argentina will win the competition though.

i agree that difficult referee-ing decisions should be made based upon video replays

OMG, Lampard clearly scored that goal. The Ref and Lines-men are asking for a killing. Win or Lose, England deserved that goal. What a shame..
