This is a discussion on social media makes me want to die within the Self-Esteem forums, part of the Life's Other Challenges category; Facebook is super depressing. Just went on there and can't figure out why it brought me down. Maybe it's because ...

Facebook is super depressing. Just went on there and can't figure out why it brought me down. Maybe it's because it's like being famous: it feels like everyone I went to school with knows all my business and can compare my thoroughgoing lack of success to their extreme success. Most of the people who I went to school with are now lawyers with houses.

There have been times where social media has killed me inside. like the other day someone posted how their kids are smart, and on the varsity cheer team, and then i look at myself, and see a stupid, ugly, waste of space. but, there have been times where social media helped me. but most of the time, it makes me feel like trash. i haven't gone on my facebook since i saw that post, because it made me realize how much of a waste of space i really am, and how i am wasting my life sitting at home, because my anxiety makes it a pain, just for a simple trip to Walmart. one day you will be extremely successful at life, making 6 digits a year, with a nice house, a family, living the American dream. but now, all you can do, is dream of the white picket fence.

Mr. Blacksheep,

Firstly, it's sad to see the sentiments you are sharing with us regarding how you feel about yourself and your friends around you. You got a chance to see your friends on social media and then immediately went into a sea of depression of how ah-mazing their life is.

Let me break this to you, honestly, the life you see on social media is the apparent version of people's lives. What these people show on social media is the best possible version of themselves which they are portraying. What you don't realize is that such people are also going through severe challenges, problems, and issues of which you have no idea about. There is no one on earth who has a smooth life, it's just your attitude towards your life that changes the whole story.

You need to stop getting mesmerized by the apparent lives of the people. Once you know people's problems, you will be happy to know that your condition is better than most of them. So, be grateful for your life because you are fortunate than millions of people.

Remember, if you want to improve your social life, you'll have to improve your private life first. You need to reconsider the habits, routine and activities that you engage yourself in. Are you doing what you love doing? Have you discovered your strengths yet? Do you know what specialities you've got?
If the answer is No, then you need to start working on yourself right now!

Hope that made sense.

Sorry, but that's total bullshit. I know about their problems and they simply don't compare to mine. Fuck them.

Nope, doesn't make sense. Get back to me when you have something to offer other than vague advice and useless cliches.
I've heard it all a million times over and it doesn't help. Don't take it personally.

I think I might be the only person in my age group who doesn't use social media. I don't belong on this fucking planet. Will people ever outgrow this crap? Now there are folks in their 40s acting like retarded teenagers. It's insanity.

Everyone thinks they're famous. I can't deal with the snobbery and entitlement much longer. I'm gonna snap soon. Please just kill me.

Everyone treats me like shit. I'm a nobody.

Seriously, I don't get it. You spend all day on your phone and twitter/instagram and it takes you 4 days to reply to my message??? And the icing on the cake is that it was a 3-word response. "Yes and yes." What the fuck is that shit? Makes me so mad. Am I that undeserving of your time? Fucking cunt.

Facebook - founded by a man who used it on the first go to publicly devastate a former girlfriend who had passed him over. Such a wicked energy permeates it. I would not touch it with a barge pole.
