I should shut mine down but I usually never do. I guess it is a matter of preference. My OCD makes me keep mine on all the time.

I leave 'er runnin all the time, only occasianal restarts and disk defragging, deleting temp files, y'know just cleanin up.

If you have Windows, you should turn it off once in a while to install those security patch things from Microsoft.

Windows is notoriously bad at releasing memory from certain applications. It's worthwhile to reboot to release things now and then, especially if you don't have a lot of RAM. Shutting down probably helps now and then just to let things cool off. I never do personally, because it takes too long to boot back up when I need it and it's a company machine, so everything is backed up to three archives every day and I don't really worry about data loss or getting new parts or a replacement.
