Look on the back of your router, it should have around 4 ethernet ports for networking. I assume you have a cable long enough to run to the other computer and it may still be inplace... simply plug one end of the cable into the router and one cable into the networking card on the computer, you should be able to access the internet now. Ethernet cable looks just like phone but fatter with bigger jacks, fyi.

How did he connect to the internet before?
He should have a female ethernet port you can put the other end of the ethernet cable into.

before he used a sagem modem which tiscali sent us, one end plugged into phone line and other into his comp. so does he not need to use this old modem then?

No need for the old modem. Just do exactly what I said. Take the free end of the ethernet cable that is now (or will be) connected to the router and plug it into where you used to connect his computer to the modem.

So... cable connected to the router and his computer where you used to connect the modem. Connection to the internet you shall have.

Now the reason you dont need to use the old modem is because the router us routing the connection from the new modem.

Think of it as a stream of water... the modem draws the water out... sends it to the router... and the router routes the stream.
