Default Nikola Tesla: Ushered In The AC Current

Nikola Tesla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think Tesla was a little underrated and unappreciated, we didn't learn about this man in school. He created the patents for the AC Current and is recognized as the inventor of the radio. He also had some kinda obsessive compulsive disorder... Couldn't stand earrings and claimed to communicate with outer space... People thought he was a madman. He also made other things, among which one was a literal Death Ray he didn't get to introduce, the patent which was lost. Whatchu think?

Hey Venom, just stopped by to mention that this was a good choice of posting. Also, to agree with you 100% about him. No doubt a genius, Tesla was ridiculed by Edison when Tesla offered the concept of alternating current, rather than Edison's direct current. Can you imagine the amount of wiring we would need if we used DC instead of AC as our energy grid. I don't think there would be any copper or aluminum left on the earth...LOL If I remember correctly, Edison used AC to show how dangerous it was, by shocking animals and inmates to death, to try to destroy the practicality of AC. Tesla would also "one-up" him with the invention of the induction motor. Although often described as being strange in his several of his ideas, he definitely fits the word, "visionary".

Thanks again,

David

Tesla was cool.. I love him.... He also found a way to transmit electricity wireless... How cool is that?? He powered like 40 light bulbs from 10 miles away or something.. Without wires....... He was amazing....

Power can be broadcast, and in fact is (inadvertantly); part of the reason high voltage transmission lines are so high off the ground is that you can suck power out of them w/o touching them by just putting a coil of wire oriented the right way near to them. The higher the voltage the farther away you can be.

Ok... But his Idea was to transmit energy wireless.. How Awesome would that have been?? No Outages etc... No wires mucking up the scenery... etc.. Were his experiments just proving what you mentioned or were they different?... He powered like 40 light bulbs from like 10 miles away claiming that the energy flowed through the ground... Tesla was an amazing genius..( Like Newton) I wish I was Tesla...

Tesla is my fave. In my opinion he has contributed most to modern society as we know it. It's sad to see that his contribution is not recognised seeing that we have actually barely improved on his initial concepts. Google 'smartest people' or 'famous inventors' and you'd be lucky to find him. Edison takes the cake for those sections but Tesla was so much more brilliant.

Einstein is great but apart from the subjective atom bomb (of which he did not create alone) what did he leave with us? An incomplete theory and a few good sayings?

Edison was a flop. Typical american commercialisation.

Da Vinci was good but his ideas had more breadth than depth. Tesla had both!

Wright brothers, great planes but that's about it.

Henry ford, not even in the same league.

Graham Bell, all he invented was the phone. Tesla did it without wires!

Benjamin franklin, also not even close to this league.

Newton was good and he gave us lots of what we take for granted today, He's very close to tesla but I think the serbian genius has got it. (or was he hungarian?)

Tesla gave us power for our PCs for TTL :)
