I just read that back and it doe not make much sense, but anyone who knows the answer will probably be able to work out what i mean.

ok to the pound one struts you see onthe blue bar at the bottom with start menu well look all the way across that blue bar untill you see the letters: EN
if it is on USA then change it to the UK and it should let you use the £.You may have to go in settings on there and look through to set it up to UK if not may keep changing back.
I had that problem until I done that and now look ££££££££££ woohhhooo lol
Hope that help not sure how to help with your prob hiding as don't have all those funny keys lol sorry

To display non-Unicode programs in their native language
Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
On the Advanced tab, under Language for non-Unicode programs, click the language version of non-Unicode programs that will be used.
Notes
To open Regional and Language Options, click Start, click Control Panel, click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options, and then click Regional and Language Options.
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.
This setting enables programs that do not support Unicode to display menus and dialog boxes in their native language by installing the necessary code pages and fonts. However, programs designed for other languages may not display text correctly.
Only non-Unicode programs are affected by this setting. The language you select for this option does not change the menus and dialog boxes of Windows or other Unicode programs.
----------------------------------------------------------
Only other thing I found that you could try.
