Why red, green, and blue?

RGB is for use with computer monitors and other light sources, but I'm pretty sure ink doesn't mix colours in the same way.

you are correct, mixing light is done in RGB. Mixing colours has to be in CYMK to get the full colour spectrum.
But i geuss i could work to some degree in RGB
