Calista Springer-the worst story of child abuse and i cant forget it
Calista Springer was a 16 year old girl. she was found dead after a housefire. she was chained to her bed by a dog-chokecollar around her waste. her parents said she had a disorder of some sort that made her extremely violent, though her teachers and friends saw nothing of the sort. she would go to school and would have to ask her classmates for things like hair brushes and toothbrushes and tooth paste, food/money for lunch. she was never clean, always wore a turtleneck shirt and jeans, and would wear the same clothes everyday for weeks at a time. she was so small they could fit a dogs chained choke collar around her waste.
she had tried to tell her teachers about something that was happening at home, but it never got out. then, one day at school, someone found Calistas journal about all the things that were happening at home. it was taken to the schools counselor, who shouldve taken it to child services. but quickly after that Calista was pulled from public school. after her death, the investgators looked into child services, and foudn that there was no case ever opened for her. she was the child of her fathers first marriage, and her stepmother was home with her. the grandmother knew it was happening, and said she never saw anything violent about calista. her grandmother knew it was happening, and said she didnt like going over ot see her granddaughter because of how she was being treated. alot of people knew of the abuse, and no one said anything. they said Calista was tortured, starved, and abused, and then chained to her bed. idk how the fire started, but that to me is the most horrible way to die. chained down somehwere with blazing death fastly aproaching. the choke collar left a burnt mark around her waist just under her belly button. for some reason, i cannot get this horrible story ou tof my mind and i was hoping talking abou tit would help. this has to be the most horrible i have ever heard. that would be my worst nightmare. to be chained down with death coming closer and closer. my mom said that the smoke most likely killed her b4 the fire got to her. but still. how horrible would it be to be chained to ur bed with ur house burning to the ground. the parents are on trial now. to me, though they both should be chained to a rock and thrown in a deep deep river. |
This is horrible. I can understand why you aren't able to get it out of your head. I can't see how people can know this kind of thing is going on and just let it continue to happen. I mean, I know you don't exactly want to pull a kid away from her family, but if you knew THIS was going on?? Cheese and rice- THOSE people should be charged with something, too!

Such a sad story, her dad/stepmother should be chained and burned to death themselves. You said a lot of people knew... but why didn't they do anything?

i can understand why alot of ppl keep child abuse to themselves when they see a victim of it, bc in a few cases, all the social workers do is open a case, do interviews, piss off the parents or child abusers, and then leave from either the lack of proof or some bogus reason. this happened to a girl i new in elemtenary school, my sister knew a few girls stuck in that situation, and my mom is a victim of this herself. but still, they had actual proof. a journal and witnesses (the grandmother), chain marks on her body compared to bruises u usually find on a victim of child abuse, classmates and friends who were willing to help her. im sure they wen thome and told there parents, or thats wat i did in fourth grade.

A childhood friend of mine was abused by her mother quite often. Oftentimes, she'd have bruises and blood. None of the adults we knew cared because they all considered it to be discipline because the mother usually did it as a punishment. What she did was more than typical corporal punishment -- although that's sick, too.

and i no that this isnt the worst story in the world. but it defo is an eye opener to the things ppl cover up. ppl are so worried about paying there car payments and making more money, keeping an eye on the ecnomy and feeding kids in forgein countries. but yet, we ignre it when a lil girl walks by with a black eye.
ppl say our children are our future, then why do we turn our backs to them when they need us the most?? and im not saying all cases of child abuse go unnoticed. child serivces did finally come threw for my mom after over ten yrs of abuse and ppl calling it in ( a few teachers lost there jobs for going over the principals head and calling child services). when i was younger, my sisters friend was being sexualy abused and was quickly removed form the home and is now attending college. all im saying is that it happens more then ppl see bc ppl cover it up. im all for corporal punishment, i grew up on it (keep in my mind my mother was abused as a child). but ive heard more stories about parents being arrested for simply spanking a child in public then actual child abuse cases going down. |
also, when u look at child abuse cases that do get fully taken cared for, there not actually child abuse. im sure everyone heard of the foster parents who locked the mentally retarded children in cages. if u look further into it, those children where actually onli put in those cages at night, and onli bc they wouldve been a harm to thmeselves and to the other children. when my blind, autistic, and mentally retarded cousin was young, my aunt has to tie him to a bare mattress with no blankets or pillows bc he would eat anything, and walk around at night, drink bleach and play with knives.
which is why id be more understanding with Calistas parents if she had a real disorder. but theres no doctors or teachers or anyone saying she did besides the parents. and even if she did, the parents shouldve gotten help instead of just stood around taking the easiest way out. |
Yeah. I watched a bit of the case on Court TV. I mean, Tru TV. Whatever. Yeah, it is heartbreaking. She's a beautiful kid too.
The worst part is, the parent who did the abuse is not even her natural mother. |
to me, both parents did it. the onli reason one of them could get off for not doin git was if the father was doing it and the stepmom got the shit beat out of her for trying to stop him.
but thats not the case. theres no proof of spousal abuse and the other children where treated extremely well. there were two other beds in that room with Calista. if this lil girl was so violent as the parents are claiming, why didnt they put her in her own room?? both parents did it bc sitting bk and letting something horrible like this go down is the same as doing it. |
That's horrible.... -.-
