Can't eat. . . Anything
I don't know what's going on. I've never had problems with this kind of thing until just recently, but I can't even force myself to eat. I'm a healthly, muscular, six foot, two hundred and some odd pounds guy, but I've started loosing weight like crazy. It's not like it's a mental thing; it's not like I'm ignoring hunger pains or what not. I've just stopped getting hungry. I only notice when my parents ask me if I've had supper; I think back and realize that I havn't, but I lie because the thought of food makes me sick. I feel bloated and heavy, but I know that I've eaten almost nothing. There's no way that I would ever go to a doctor, but isn't there something I can do to remedy this problem myself?

Re: Can't eat. . . Anything
A similar thing happened to me. I used to be a heavy set girl who never had a problem eating, even when I wasn't hungry! But I just lost my appetite because my mind was so busy with other things.

I guess the desire for food takes a backseat to the desire for a quiet mind.

It's a shame that you can't see a doctor, therapist, or dietician. A change in appetite is not usual. There is often something that causes it. As you said, it may or may not be a mental "thing". Sometimes loss of appetite can be caused by physical diseases.

My therapist tells me that I shouldn't force myself to eat if I don't feel like it. I would offer the same advice to you. I've lost a lot of weight too, just like you, but as long as you're not getting dangerously thin I think you'll be OK in the short while. But I also advise you to give some serious thought to seeing a doctor. It might be mental, or it might be medical. There is no harm in getting it checked out, and you can always get a second opinion if you don't like what they tell you. You owe it to yourself.

If I had to guess, it sounds like you're just tired of the kind of food you're used to eating rather than have a disorder of eating. Try dragging yourself out to a good food place in town you haven't been to in awhile.

you haven't gone on any medication recently? Any life changes or diet changes etc?

I found I lost my appetite when I was put onto anti depressants....I'm not really sure what else could have caused it unless you've had something change in your life that was of great importance.

I too find it very difficult to eat as i rarely feel hungry.
I drink lots and lots of tea and yesterday all i had was 2 bags of crisps and a piece of steak.

Wow.. this makes me remember back when I used to skip lunch in school and do without all day. When you do that for 2yrs in a row... people suspect stuff.

Maybe its a food phobia?

Something similar to this happens to me, too, but except for not eating at all, I'll have a week where I barely want to eat anything...because it makes me sick. Then, the next week, I'm always starving. It's an endless cycle and I'm not sure how to make it go away, or even what's causing it. It's really easy for me to just forget to eat, though, so that's why I tend to do that. Go without eating for so long, I mean.

Hunger is a ridiculous thing.

Have you^ ever just grabbed a piece of plain bread like me and ate it for dinner, while forgetting you haven't eaten anything else all day?

Sweet Denial 01-30-09 02:35 AM

Yeah, I've done something similar to that, Meerkat. Usually, though I'll be minding my own business until about nine at night, when I realize I haven't eaten yet, and that's, of course, when I realize I'm hungry. But then I go to find something and NOTHING is appetizing. So then I go to bed without food and the cycle repeats itself.
