Default Splitting lip

Everytime I smile or cough my lower lip splits right down the middle a few mm deap, it's been doing it for about a month now and it really hurts.

I think it might be a vitamin deficiency but no idea which one?

Any help would be great

Buy some Carmex...it comes in a little glass jar with a yellow metal top, should be able to find it in any large grocery store or any drug store. It's great stuff, especially in cold weather for just the kind of problems your talking about.

Yeah I've tried carmex, Vaseline and my gfs elisibeth Arden (expensive stuff) lip cream... Whilst it relives the pain it doesn't heal it.

I know what chapped lips are like but this is different. Its splitting for no reason, and much deeper than any chapped lips I've ever had. I wake up with blood spots on my pillow.
Any tension in my lower lip seems to make it split again???

Is it possibly not healed all the way up quite, so it is easy to split open again? I've had that happen in the winter especially, where it does split down the middle, then I have to be extra extra careful until it has stayed healed up for a while. Is it something where a doctor would be worth talking to about the issue? I'd offer that you could have gotten something into the split that is making that area prone to resplitting, but I don't have anything to go off of with that thought in real experience. :-/ Sorry. I hope it heals up and stays better soon.

I've had the same thing sometimes just from dryness, I think. Everything is fine, then I smile and riiiiiipppp! One big split. Then it heals up and not too long after it seems like it should be okay, it happens again. It's been some years since I experienced it, I do remember though. Quite unpleasant!

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Stay away from energy drinks. Could just be from dehydration

If you have a deep tear from dryness in your lip or in your finger-tips , you need to bind the two sides together for a day or two to help the two sides begin to fuse back together. Not to sound like a wise-guy (girl), but tape your mouth shut--the wound--maybe on the weekend while you're at home?

I use Blistex--the white, cooling ointment for moisturizing. Drink lots of water, too, 'cuz most of us are dehydrated and don't even realize it.

Hope that helps.

Hmmm I drink LOTS of energy drinks and rarely drink water. I should change that I guess
I've thought about putting a stitch through it to hold it closed, I've got a disolvable stitch kit... Maybe tape would work, but the split has now gone right into my mouth so tape won't stick.

It split really bad this morning, when I blew a raspberry in my daughters neck

I wouldn't suggest putting a stitch in. It's an easy spot to get infected and you don't want and infection that close to your brain. I'd try cutting down on energy drinks. Keep hydrated.
