I really need to quit smoking, I have a horrible phlegmy cough. I really don't have the will power, would it be worth seeing my doctor? Any success stories or tips?

I'm not a smoker, nor do I know anyone who smokes, so take everything I say from here on out, with a grain of salt.

Have you tried using the patch / gum combo? Apparently, it works pretty well. Again, I don't know anyone who smokes, so that's just hearsay from around the internet. Might be worth a shot, at least.

I've quit a few times (yeah, my will-power sucks) and the only success I've ever had has been when using patches. I've been able to quit for a few solid months on patches twice. A heavy-smoking friend of mine managed to quit using Champix tablets prescribed by her doctor. Good luck! I bet you'll be surprised by how briskly you'll be able to walk!

I've had friends you successfully gave it up. Its difficult, but definitely doable!

Heaps of options;
combo of nicotine replacement therapy (gum +patch, lozenge/inhaler +patch)
wellbutrin
champix

Best thing to do would be to go in and speak to your doctor- if he's any good he can work out what regime would be best for you based on what type of cravings you get, how addicted you are etc.

Well done on considering it and good luck!!!
