Default Intense Migraines; what should I do?

So, I've been dealing with migraines since I was about 7 years old. I get them daily, and when I say that, I'm not exaggerating. If I do things while I have a migraine like workout too hard, stand up fast or even eat I throw up and it worsens the pain but anyone who's had migraines can tell ya just laying around don't make them feel any better either. I wake up with them daily and go to sleep with them daily. It's almost constant. With the help of migraine medicine I almost can go a couple hours or more (depends) without a migraine but most of the time, most days the medicine works very little or not at all. I don't know what to do about them anymore. They don't bother me as much as they did when I was younger. When I was younger I would cry and scrunch my head in pain in my arms but these days I'm so used to the pain... I mean 11 years of constant migraines, it's not easy but I've learned to just get over it and move on with my day. More times than not I don't let them bother me but it's still so much pain I endure. And I'm over it...

My question is; is there anything I can do to at least lessen the amount of pain migraines cause? Should I go see a doctor? Could something be seriously wrong?

hey, i suffer with migraines too. i dont get them as much as i used to now a days for some reason im not sure why.
i went and had my eyes checked, they sent me to the doctors..the doctors sent me to the opticians and back and forth so i never got an answer.
my doctor did say keep note of what ive been eating because it could be to do with your diet and that. im not sure what helps trigger them off so youd have to browse that sorry.
bright lights can be a big impact too, lack of sleep, stress, lots of things.
id go back to your doctor and explain what youve said here, there might be something more to look for with it and best to get it checked out than to carry on with having them constantly
hope you get it sorted soon and the doctor can help..x

Oh, I know bright lights and stress can cause them, but I'm in my house pretty much most of the time and it's dim in here. I also am not too stressed these days. Thanks for the reply

Sorry to hear you've been suffering for so long! I received my first migraine when I was 5 years old for a long time, I would get them several times a year. And I only get a really bad headache if I go long periods of time without eating.

but chronic migraines are another matter. I would definitely visit a doctor. I really hope you find relief soon! Having constant migraines must be truly miserable.

Avoiding processed, sugary foods and vegetable oils may help a little. But, I highly recommend seeing a doctor.

Hi Lannah,

What meds are you taking an dhow often? Some medications (in fact most) will actually cause you to get a "transformed migraine" if you take them regularly.

When I get really bad migraines i have to be careful i don't take the same meds daily. As stupid as it sounds I try to alternate between drugs with different core ingredients.

There are medications you can be on (anti-epileptics, propranolol etc) that are taken on a daily basis to prevent migraines. But I think you need to go to a doctor and work out what these headaches are. I'm sure you get migraines, but its pretty rare to get them on a daily basis.

I get migraines too (at least 2 a week), and have a daily headache as well. I know what you mean about learning to live with them. I cant remember the last time I wasn't in pain. :-( Still, I'm on propranolol and that helps HEAPS.

Please please please go and see your doctor and see what he says. And watch out for the transformed headaches!
