Hi there. I have a family member with Aspergers.... Was looking for others or familys of other who are dealing with this. I'd like to swap ideas and different things that you've tried that maybe we could try as well to make life a little more easier for them. You don't have to say you...you can say "my cousin" or whatever if you aren't comfortable. Just looking to network

In a hobby group I used to be in, one longtime member also has Asperger's. He once began writing an article that told what it was like, not being able to read the emotions of other people. I wish he'd finished that because it would be really interesting -- and would have made us understand each other better.

There's a book on Amazon by a man with Aspergers, called How Was I To Know, by Steve Norris.

I don't know anybody with aspergers but maybe you could try making a list of socially appropriate rules for them. like whenever someone holds open a door for you, you MUST say thank you. but you have to be careful. ppl with aspergers follow rules EXACTLY. if someone doesnt say "you're welcome" after he says thank you, he could become very confused and continue to say "thank you" until the other person says you're welcome. maybe come up with rules like, say thank you but only once. the rules have to be very specific. also eye contact is very hard for ppl with autism spectrum disorders so i would say to just not give him a hard time about that. i think their brains process faces differently, so it's overwhelming to have to make eye contact.

He does pretty well with others. Just trying to find others with common ground. It's just like a person with cancer, the family suffers with them. =]
