Thumbs up Playing an instrument

Does anyone play an instrument here and if so, how does it help you through your troubles?

I'm learning piano at the moment and am following Alfred's All In One Piano course book. I'm nearly 3/4 way though. I haven't been able to play for long periods but when I do I feel my worries disperse through playing music. I feel like I've accomplished a lot too. I can spend hours playing piano and not get bored.

Right now I'm learning how to play Auld Lang Syne.

I'm an older guy. Have played guitar about 48 years and piano around 45 years. Toured with several great bands back in the day.

I would highly encourage you to continue with learning how to play.

Life has kicked me in the teeth a number of times. Playing music has gotten me through those times.

It has been my escape and my therapy.

I always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, sometimes I started but it never went anywhere. It's not that feasible for me to get lessons at the moment, but then again you said you were learning from a book? How are you finding it?

Xerxes, the book is amazing. I've learnt so much from it since December when I first started playing. I'm at an 'early intermediate' stage at the moment.

There are a lot of resources out there for playing guitar. I used to have lessons as a child but abandoned the guitar after the age of 12. Youtube is a good resource too.

Wow December was not that long ago, it seems you've been able to make a lot of progress! You've given me some hope that I can maybe teach myself from books/online videos, I might give it a try soon when I have some more free time
