Default Bed Bugs and Moving to a New Place.

Need advice guys.

So since I moved to this apartment I've had bed bugs 2 times in less than 2 years. They have sprayed the place down 2 times also, which meant I had to put everything in garage bags, like I was moving so they could come in and spray the place...it's an exhausting way to live. I'm so angry with the management company who rented me this place I decided to put in my 1 months notice this month because my cancer treatments were done last month. Cancer free right now.. Yahoo!!! So I have to be out by June 1st.

When I move all my furniture will be going to the garbage. Mad about that too. I've packed up quite abit of my stuff in Rubbermaid storage containers already.

This is my dilemma.

My sister told me to rent a place in someone's house or get a basement suite in someone's house. I have to admit this would be the best way for me to avoid future bed bugs.

My other option is too rent a hotel suite for a few months, which would have a bed and furniture and tv.

The other option is too move to another apartment. When looking at other apartments..I read somewhere that in this city about 80 % of the landlords have had bed bug problems.
I've checked the bed bug registry out in my area too.

I'm having a problem also picking an apartment out. I began to realize that I want to rent a place cheaper than what I currently pay. Which is my old neighbourhood which I dread going back too. I like the new area I live in now. I found one place a bachelor in the innecity, it's a bad part of town( my old area) but if I move there I could save myself a couple of hundred of dollars... just the thought of saving that money makes me so happy.
But I haven't had a chance to check that place out. I called and the landlord never called back...which makes me wonder about the place, no I couldn't leave a message that was it too full. But that area of town shows up on the beg bug resgistry with a big bed bug problem although that apartment does not. I could live alone... and save money.

My current place I love. But a huge bed bug problem in this area too. You just can't guarantee your going to get a bed bug problem again if you do apartment living. I found a place a block north of me and a couple of other places just a few blocks north of me that might work but I'm worried about bed bugs. I'm looking for smaller suite apartments because I think that could elimate the bed bug thing rather than renting an apartment with 50 suites in it going to one with 4 to 8 suites.

I don't like living in a basement suite but if I move into someone's house....what happen if I bring the bed bugs along????? To be honest... I don't believe I have bed bugs in anything of mine currently. I don't see anything in my clothes infact my clothes have been packed away in Rubbermaid containers for almost 2 years and garbage bags wrapped around them.

I also got a storage unit to salvage what I could....Old pictures, some of my shoe collection and my cook books. I'm paying $100.00 a month for that and I was kind of sick to my stomach too cause I worried about the bed bugs being in some of that stuff too. But I bought Rubbermaid containers for all of that stuff and sprayed the containers down with contact bed bug spray and double checked everything when I packed it away. I found one bed bug in a candlestick holder under the candle and threw the candles, candlestick out.

Then I thought what if someone else has bed bugs and put it in the storage unit also????

I don't believe I have bed bugs in any of my stuff that I would bring with me. I've been very careful and the pesticide people told me that bed bugs can't lay eggs on plastic containers and told me just to look threw my stuff and if it has bed bugs put it in one place and if I don't have bed bugs put it in another place. But I don't see any bed bugs currently.

But at the end of the day it would make me sick to my stomach.... if I brought bed bugs to someone's house. Morally. I would just hate myself too.

So, do I go to the transition place first like that hotel just outside of the city (could it have bed bugs)...stay there for a couple of months to make sure there are no bed bugs...then I can move to a house or do I move into the cheap suite downtown and hope there are no bed bugs. But it's cheap and if I'm going to get bed bugs anyway stay in the cheap place. or do I move into someone's house???? and hope to god I don't bring any with me. Which I don't think I have right now. I mean honestly packed all my clothes away and half of my kitchen is in storage containers now too and have been since the second bed bug spraying.

After writing all this...I think I'll phone the pesticide people again for advice. They don't make a big deal about it. Basically if you see bed bugs throw it out. They told me I don't have to throw everything out especially if I don't see bed bugs.

Just want to do what's right. IDK.

That's a hard one... I don't know much about bed bugs, but apparently they're hard to get rid of.. I think calling the pesticide people is a good idea. They could advice you about what to do more than we can I would think. Could you move into a place and leave your stuff in storage for a while? or take one box at a time and check it carefully? Do bed bugs survive in freezing temperatures? I'm not sure what's needed to do with clothes and stuff? sorry I can't help much..

I would probably go the least expensive route and use the saved monies to replace what you have lost and for anything needed to make sure the bed bugs are gone.

Thank you guys!!!!

I'm thinking cheaper is better too Dax!!!! I really think that place downtown would be great for me price wise. I'm still thinking about it.

I called my storage unit and I'm renting out another storage. I'm pretty well packed up here maybe 80 % in Rubbermaid containers. I haven't seen any live bed bugs to date. Another reason I wanted to move now is because I Just had the place sprayed again so I know nothing is around.

I don't have a place yet...because of the bed bug dilemma. If it wasn't for the fear of bed bugs.... I would've moved already. Over the last month at work 2 people told me they had bed bugs. One had bites and one was dumpster diving and brought home a couch to his condo with bed bugs. I just feel you can't avoid the bed bugs especially if your apartment living. I'm thinking a smaller apartment is better..less suites and maybe more stable place.

My pesticide people called me back but... it was on a sunday and I wasn't home. At least they tried. Between a rock and a hard place. I like a basement suite close by about a block north. I really think it would be a good place for me to move. I've checked the bed bugs registry on some of the apartments in the area and I found some in places I wanted to move too. IDK.

It has to stay below -40 C for exactly 2 weeks and it will kill the bed bugs. It can get to -40 c here but it lasting for 2 weeks straight is unlikely.

I have thrown so much stuff out...all I see is money being thrown out. Food, clothes, appliances, furniture..It's sickening.

So, I'm still in my dilemma. Tomorrow I have to go to the storage unit and then I'll call the hotel out of town and see if I want to go there too. At least that way I won't have to buy furniture right away.

Thanks for reading and listening. Just causing me a lot of stress.

Feeling stressed. I manage to move some stuff to my storage locker the stuff I could salvage but now I'm not sure what to do next. I don't have a place for June 1st yet. I have an appointment tomorrow to look at an apartment. What if that apartment has bed bugs too???? IDK. I don't dare ask if he's had problems. I really don't think I have any bed bugs with me. Oh! btw.... they spraying some suites for bed bugs in my building again.

Phoned my sister and she wants me to move into some basement suite and throw everything out and I mean everything. Apartment living scares me now. IDK.

I still have to contact phone and mail and let them know to cut things off!!! change my mailing address to my box address. I have both apartment and box address.

Just 6 days to go and I don't have a place to stay. If it wasn't for the bed bug situation. I would have a place by now. But I'm scared to move into a bed bug infested place, scared I'll bring bed bugs with me, doubt it though, I'm staying on top of it. Although they are spraying 2 doors down from me.

Might have to get a hotel for now or short term. I'll check that apartment out tomorrow and see. But now I'm thinking I would like something cheaper because I have a storage unit. Just stressed.

Small part of me happy that I'm moving. New adventure. wait and see.
