Default The LHC

I'm all for the advancement of science and technology, and maybe I've seen one too many science fiction movies, but if there was even a scintilla of a chance that we would blow our planet to bits by using this thing we wouldn't be doing it, right? Right!? :? Just making sure...

They've fired a test beam but have yet to create particle collisions. That is scheduled for October 31st.

I'm sure everything will be fine. It can create small black holes on earth, but those are harmless and will likely disappear instantaneously. I'm sure we're in good hands- science people tend to be smart. And stuff. :P

I saw that they wanted to explore the possibilities of other dimensions. Anyone here read The Mist or seen the movie? Maybe I just read a little too much Stephen King.

They want to create the fastest collisions ever seen. They're recreating what happened soon after the big bang.. to see how matter is formed. How everything was made.

I dunno if everyone saw, but they stopped it a couple of weeks ago because it broke. They're starting it up again sometime next year.

The whole scare-mongering over the black holes is mad... They don't expect it to make black holes.. they just accept that it is theoretically possible (because they are scientists and work on probabilities).
