Sometimes, ok most of the time, I wonder if my cynical outlook, depression, and self-hatred will prevent me from finding a partner. In general I find life worthless but the one thing I've always enjoyed is being around children. The only thing I think that could be fulfilling in my life is a family but the possibility it may not happen only serves to bring me further down.

Anyone else felt this way? Anyone found a great relationship despite similar barriers?

I think it depends if your cynicism, self hatred, etc effects who you are from the outside, or if you internalize a lot of those emotions. Some people are good at hiding it, and those who do probably have a better chance at a relationship. The truth eventually comes out though if you're with someone long enough.

I've been in the depression and self hating boat for awhile now, yet I managed to maintain healthy relationships and have a great boyfriend at the moment. I don't believe in the crap that you have to "love yourself first" or project optimism to find someone.
