Awwwwesome! And thanks for mentioning Sort Vokter -- I'd heard them a few days ago and I've been trying to remember their name for all that time since.
I also love, love, LOVE black and death metal... mainly black metal but I also love blackened death metal, pagan metal, folk metal, some thrash and goregrind, etc. If it sounds evil and dark I'll most likely give it a listen, LOL.

alot of it qualifies mostly as raw and the music is generally downtempo, but if I listen long enough it's actually uplifting. alot of these artists also make ambient style music inspired by nature.

Yes, thank you! I love Xasthur and ColdWorld... liked what I heard of Austere, haven't listened to Trist yet.
Let's see, some of my favorite bands are...
Dimmu Borgir (that's one of my favorite songs of theirs, and a pretty good live rendition)
Cradle of Filth (I love "Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder" and I like what other songs I've heard from them)
Finntroll and also Moonsorrow, which is kind of like a darker, better Finntroll -- Finntroll actually got me into listening to folk, and later black, metal.
Taake, which is just amazing blackened folk metal with epic overtones.
Equilibrium, a great German folk/death/black/epic/whatever the hell they want to be band.
Graveworm, an Italian blackened death metal band that is really good.
Marduk... so incredibly, wonderfully brutal.
That's only a small sample of what I like, some other good bands have already been mentioned above.

Yeah he had a way with a guitar and lyrics. I'm really hoping that the new stuff from Control Denied comes out this year, the first one he put out before his death was great. It was Death, but it wasn't. It had the great guitar work, it had the great lyrics, but it didn't have Chuck growling.
Eraser, I just went with three bands I could remember liking from that time when MTV would play music at times and had any resemblance to being heavy that would been around 12-14 years ago. I can still listen to Beautiful People and Man That You Fear, but I don't look to listen to them on my own.
Terato, have you ever gave Akercocke or The Project Hate a listening to? They are two of the best bands that have formed in the past 15 years. Akercocke is probably my favorite of the two. The way the singer can use growls, shrieks and amazing clean vocals all in one song is something else. Plus, the music itself is some of the best around.
Akercocke This might not be totally safe for work or kids. They like half naked women in their videos.
The Project Hate
All in all, I don't really care for black metal. I like Venom, Bathory and Merciful Fate. I do not like Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Burzum and all that. I'll listen to Lord Belial, Rotting Christ, Sigh and Samael but that is kinda about it when it comes to black metal, unless they have a death metal sound to go with it like Akercocke and Goatwhore do.

lol, you don't have to like it, but you don't have to come into a metal thread and call other peoples music tasteless either ;)

Then why'd you comment?
Seriously, what are your tastes in music? You've contributed nothing to this thread except ignorantly confusing one music genre with another on the basis that it sounds similar to YOU. Grindcore is not black metal is not death metal, thanks.

For those interested in women black metal singers, there's Cadaveria from Opera IX (awesome band, awesome singer -- and Cadaveria's a beautiful dark angel, to boot!) and Angela Gossow, who I think might be more death than black metal.
Another female-fronted band is Aghast, which was a very eerie band. Here's some of their stuff -- it's really creepy dark ambient more than metal, but it's really good.
Call from the Grave
Das Irrlicht
Anyone here also a fan of the Black Legions?

I hope for the same with the new Control Denied. The Fragile Art of Existence is such an overlooked gem in the metal world, but it's so awesome I'd even say its up there with Into the River Black by Sanctuary, for the type of music that it is. I loved its combination of power metal vocals with thrash, death, progressive, and at some points, doom metal guitarwork.

Well I don't go for metal but I do Acid Rap, which basically is part metal. Try Esham or Natas does nobody listen to rap? I like that Judas Preist Breakin the Law shit. I can relate lol. Also try some Ganksta NIP and Street Military, or Point Blank.
