I think it's worth it to have friends, as long as they're the right ones. You should have some things in common, they should be interesting, they should be fun yet educated, and most of all, they should be morally upright and not vindictive or mean spirited and certainly not verbally abusive.
Friends are good to have someone to chat with if you're bored, to have a social life, to motivate you/each other to improve in life (i.e. health, finances, etc.), and to get good advice from. Or you could hang out with family or socialize at work if you prefer. It's up to you.
In most parts of the world, quantity is important and lone wolves are seen as losers, crackpots, and malcontents,
but in the West, like in the US, it's quality over quantity and two friends is an acceptable number.
