Don't be too frustrated with yourself, you just have to keep trying. Did you have a music player with you for your walk? I'd find it very hard to do a workout like that if it's just me alone with my thoughts.

Maybe walking isn't the right workout for you? Have you tried other possibly more enjoyable workouts? Most libraries have a pretty good selection of exercise DVDs. And if there is a community gym in your area there may be some affordable fitness classes available. I tried a Zumba class for the first time last week, and kind of felt like a bit of an idiot because I didn't know the moves, but everyone was nice and I just kept moving and still got my heart rate up.
aww i tried not to be. yesterday i went out and pushed myself a bit more so i'm happy with that. i do have one, but i think i need to get more upbeat music on there. but i was thinking a lot too that day so perhaps that was part of the problem.

and i've been thinking about that a lot. i think tonight i'll try jogging. i'm not at all a jogger but maybe that's just what i need. is zumba any fun? i've heard a lot about it but when i youtubed it it looked slightly awkward. good on ya for going!

Cinderella, I know exactly how you are feeling. I have just started running in the morning for the first time in years and I absolutely hate it (which is why I hadn't done it in a long time). But I tip here is that you set yourself little goals while you are doing your walking...you don't have to go flat out the whole time. Say, pick a post or tree that may be 20 metres or so away from you and say "I'm going to walk fast up until that tree" and then give yourself a rest by walking slower again to catch your breath. I find that listening to my ipod whilst running and walking really helps too.

Try not to beat yourself up too much, you'll get there. Have you considered any of the following: weights (just 2-3kg dumbells), squats, situps, exercise bike? Those are also good things to help with your initial fitness
good job for starting running again! that sounds like a good idea! i'll have to try it tonight. i'd like to get a treadmill or something for my house, but i'm poor and my mom doesn't really want to buy one. the gyms around here are all somewhat shady, in my opinion, and i don't particularly feel comfortable in going in there just yet so i guess walking/jogging will have to do for now. i read that you can fill up milk jugs with sand and those are kinda the same as weights so i may do that later too :)

Yeah, I much prefer treadmills than actually running too... but they are so expensive! Do you have any friends that go to the gym? I find that having a workout buddy helps heaps too. Would your mum go to gym with you or start walking with you?

I don't know what gyms are like over there, but here, all of the big chain gyms are just full off tossers... like really skinny, shallow girls who wear makeup to the gym and do their hair and stuff. And the guys are like just muscle roid-heads, and think their too good for everyone. But I've found a smaller gym, which is not very fancy at all... but everyone there is just normal! I reckon that makes a huge difference when doing a workout.

Milk bottles with sand is such a good idea! I don't know why I've never even thought of that before lol.

none of my friends go to the gym, actually. lucky ducks, they all have fast metabolisms and don't have to worry. hmm, i thought about asking my mom, as a matter of fact. get out of my head! :)

that's what gyms here are like too. and it's annoying cause all the skinny girls and guys give you looks almost like, "why are you here?" it's so stupid. maybe i'll go on a hunt for a smaller gym like yours.

i know right! it's such a great idea!

Yeah, good :) I'm sure your mum would love to go walking and stuff with you. Something else that's great for fitness and that you can just do at home is skipping....man, 30 seconds of that and I'm pooped! haha.

And you know what was sad...when I was at my old gym, I hadn't been for quite some months and I actually wanted to lose weight first before I would go back to the gym! Sad, huh? Yeah, I feel so out of place at those gyms. I'm sure you'll be able to find a gym like mine, good luck :)
