Default Employment Dreams

70% of Americans hate their jobs. So if you find something you enjoy doing, you're RICH.

My ultimate dream is to find something that isn't drudgery. Where at least I don't FEEL like a wage slave.

I want something that involves my skills, like writing and reading. I want something that allows me to be analytical and creative. I want something that isn't stressful unlike teaching unruly children.

I'm thinking maybe social work, but that would involve going back to school, which at this point is not an option.

I like loner jobs but I'm thinking no because those tend to be quite boring i.e. data entry.

I am hoping to go on to getting my degree in Social Studies (Social Work), lucky for me its free education where I am from. There is a tution fee, but its nothing.

I know what you mean though. I can never picture myself doing a job that I will not be happy in or feel like I am getting some kind of job satisfaction.

I can do a joint Honors degree and I am thinking of doing Social work with History. History is a huge passion of mine, but realistically, the jobs out of it is mainly teaching, and I know I do NOT want to be a teacher. Maybe with adults, or early school leavers. But defo not in a secondary school.

Im sorry, that my mindless waffling typing taking over.

I hope you find out what you wanna do!

Weird, I was just thinking about careers/jobs again five minutes ago. I'm thinking non-profit but that's hard to break into, especially without a Masters and possibly even connections. Like I said, I don't want to feel like a slave to work or do some boring drudgery.

Any ideas?

I think by nosing around you have a major in English?

I'm not that much in the know of non profit, as we come from two different countries.

What are the Pros and cons of the Non-profit and the ESL?

When you are thinking of these, make sure you keep in mind what will make YOU happy.

What are you looking for out of a career, other than money?
What schedule would best fit YOUR needs?
Will you have a support system there to help you, while you go for these goals?

I think these are important things to think about whilst thinking about career/study prospects.

Yeah I have a degree in English. I prefer non profit or admin work because I enjoy being on the computer. Non profits pay well and I can help women and fight for a cause. I would feel like I was contributing to society.

Besides money, I look for careers that are interesting and where I can feel like I'm making an impact. I also have to be good at it and it can't be too demanding.

The company culture should be non-competitive and not much like a family. I should be able to feel independent and it should be laid back. I don't have any suits so it has to be somewhat lax dress code.

Thoughts?

I would also really enjoy being a therapist. I could get a degree in Social Work. How can I pay for it?

Could you get a loan to pay for it? Is there a version of the advanced learning loan over here?

This is what we have over here: https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan

So you its between two careers?

I think now you need to assess your skills and such for each career path. But really the main thing is what will make you the most happiest.

Over here we have guidance and job counselors, I'm sure there is something like that available to you.

I know in America it costs huge amount for education, luckily here we have a bit more support.

Now I feel like want to be a freelance writer, otherwise I don't want to work. I want to be able to stay away from people while still having money. Also, even junior lawyers are being replaced by machines. 47% of jobs are in jeopardy. Creative jobs that require a "human touch" are the only ones that are safe. I guess that would include teacher but that's not for loners at all. If a student is disrespectful, I won't be able to walk away. So what can I do?
