Default how do you tell when you're hungry/full?

easy question for some, but not me... is there a method or something to tell when you're actually full and its not just anxiety or something that is looking for comfort from food? I am having a very difficult time trying to figure this out...

(((hugs))) To be honest, I struggle with this, too. I can never tell when I'm full or not. Or, better yet, actually hungry or just bored and looking for food. It's a hard struggle. I'm sorry you're dealing with it, too.

I find I eat more when I'm lazy or have little to do....just something to keep my mind and hands occupied....bad habit...

But I remember reading somewhere....that you should eat until you feel about 80% full...I'd guess this would be around the time where you feel like you could eat more but then you'd feel really full...and that's what a standard meal should be.

putting that into practice, however, quite a different can of condensed milk...mmmm....the things I miss on a Vegan diet....hahaha

: / I only know I'm hungry when my body starts to break down and shake and I'm feeling rather faint.

And I only know I'm full when I can't face putting another bite in my mouth.

Sorry that it's not the best answer, but my brain doesn't receive those signals as well as other people's.

you are supposed to eat slowly and stop before you actually feel full. it takes on average 20 minutes for your body to react to the food and tell you it is full.

so, if after 20 minutes of eating you are still hungry, then eat some more. but you are supposed to eat 3 main meals and two or three small snacks a day for an average active person.

but like you all, i eat when i am stressed, anxious and depressed.....needless to say i am well overweight lol.

i hope i have helped a little.

I usually don't eat, and sometimes I eat out of boredom. The only time I get satisfaction from food is when I smoke weed. I think I understand how you feel.

I binge eat when I'm lonely.
It's when I've no one to vent to or even converse with to distract myself with that I resort to binging to get that sick, full feeling.
I'm trying to stop. The reason I am able to eat so much when I binge eat though is that I eat incredibly fast- literally stuffing food into my mouth without chewing.
In reverse, I've discovered that eating my food slowly allows me to recognize when I'm full. It can be a hard discipline to make yourself slow down, but it' s well worth it.
Ideally, spend 20minutes eating any meal

thanks for all the replies. I actually seemed like I got it down for awhile but now it's acting up again and I'm not even entirely sure why. Is there some kind of method anybody uses to kind of slow down their eating habit or even increase for others who are on other side of the spectrum. For me, I really notice how quickly I eat it and how sugary/fatty the foods are. Is there like a good way to limit myself like counting certain amount of bytes or something?

I have to agree with this post,

I bought the Paul Mckenna "I can make you thin" cd and book and he basically tells us that we eat so fast we dont feel when we have reached our full level. I tried his method for a couple of months...eating slowly and consciously..literally putting the knife and fork down between bites, and you really do start to recognise when the hunger has gone! I lost 14lbs doing this...he also says there are some golden rules:
1 , when hungry EAT
2, eat what you want not what you think you should
3, eat consciously , enjoy every mouthful
4, when you think you are full stop eating.

he uses the hunger scale too:

1, physically faint
2, ravenous
3,fairly hungry
4, slightly hungry
5, neutral
6, pleasantly satisfied
7, full
8, stuffed
9, bloated
10, nauseous

he reccomends you eat when you feel between 3 and 4 on the scale

(im obsessed with losing weight at the moment and my trick is to eat my main meal at lunch time not dinner time)
