Default Struggling with Depression and Anxiety

There are a few reasons why I'm feeling depressed, I have a thyroid disease and I'm also deaf. My hearing has degraded over the years and now music isn't a part of my life anymore even with a hearing aid on, I can't tell the difference between what music is what. I'm going through a very hard time with this because music was my therapy for the longest time and now thats taken from me. I shut myself out from social situations because I feel embarrassed not hearing whats going on. I have tried to reach out to the deaf community locally but I'm not fluent enough in sign language to really jump into that. I feel very defeated and isolated.

Wow, big hugs for you--losing something that was a big part of your life like that is really devastating. : /

Is there anything else you enjoy that relaxes you that could help start to replace that? Or, if you don't have anything now, do you have any ideas about prospective things?

Hang in there. You're not alone. We're all in this together.

I really feel for you in losing your ability to appreciate music. It definitely suggests some artistic tendencies on your part. What I've found, and noticed, is that artistic people (even people who just appreciate art, not necessarily create it) tend to appreciate more than one form of art.

For you, poetry might be the next best thing. You might also appreciate visual art. If you don't currently do anything artistic, you might consider writing poetry and/or painting/drawing.

It seems to me that deep-down what you've lost is your connection to art, and even though music was your first choice, you may find that you like other forms as well.

Another advantage in writing/poetry/visual art is that it gives you something in common with people, where you don't actually have to meet up with them in person. If you were to google "writing forums" you'd find a number of forums where people discuss writing. The same would be true with poetry, and though I've never looked into visual art, I'm sure the same is true there.

So again, I'd really suggest you look into doing something artistic as this will re-establish your connection with art and make you part of a community of great people who will readily accept you despite the handicaps you mentioned.

Thanks guys I really appreciate you all hearing me out and giving me some advice :) I just... feel very lost, very broken. I went with a friend of mine to a couple of crafts stores in hope to kind of put myself out there and grab a hobby that might be interesting to me, but I felt very blank, not knowing what to really grab or seeing anything really catching my eyes. I'm trying :(

Ok so I decided to just go ahead and grab a handful of different artsy stuff to do.and hopefully that will help me in some sense. I still struggle social interactions in person... a friend of mine asked me to come to this event that was very intimidating for me because I couldn't understand anything going on.

It's just very discouraging that I try so hard and still trapped in my shell.

Hey there :)

I'm so sorry about hour hearing- I can only imagine how awful it must be to have that personal therapy taken from you, and I am so, so sorry you have to go through that.

I'm an artist myself, and I find arts and crafts very therapeutic!
Let me know how you get on, and I hope you feel better soon.

I'm always here if you need somebody to talk to

Thank's Molko :) I'm trying to work into art I just feel kinda lost in it lol but I'm trying.

Decided to take baby steps and go with a paint by number thing, pain in the butt but I look forward seeing the results.

It's kind of hard when my therapist says I shouldn't let my hearing loss get in the way of other things.... my world has been turned upside down... jobs has turned me away, I'm now on disability... and no matter how hard I try to go through social interactions I feel intimidated because I don't hear whats going on and panic, feeling defeated :(

I really want to try to go to college in the Fall, take up sign language and maybe (hopefully) make some friends doing that. Maybe take a art class too.

No problem- always here to help :)
You probably feel a little bit lost because it's all new to you? You never know you might find and underlying talent! Start small like you said with baby steps :) I bet you'll do amazingly. You shouldn't let your hearing loss stop you from living your life. It's tough, I can imagine, but you are strong and you can get through this :)
