Yeah man. Down is fantastic. Much love for the NOLA sludge stuff in general.

Oh, another one I forgot - Axis of Perdition. Incredibly atmospheric industrial black metal that's downright terrifying at times.

Some Throbbing Gristle would work great too. Same for Wolf Eyes, if you have a high enough tolerance for noisiness.

Disturbed? Most find them angry but their lyrics are quite depressing, to me anyway!

In my very very darkest times in the early 90's "Automatic For The People" by REM was full of sadness and still makes me cry to this day! (also see "Country Feedback" and "Half a World Away" from thier prevoius album...very great but sad tunes)

I love tool this part of the song especially is amazing.

And as the walls come down
And as I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of the times
I have died
and will die.
It's all right.
(I don't mind)

Song is called "H".

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
But all the drugs in this world
Won't save you from yourself.

Try Krohm. The genre they play is Suicidal Black Metal. I listen to it a lot when I'm feeling low.

Bergraven are good too. Along with Diagnose: Lebensgefahr (also very unsettling; wouldn't recommend it if you're prone to panic attacks. Bad times to be had there.)

As Eraserhead said, The Axis of Perdition are also really good.
