Anyone listen to depressive black metal like Nyktalgia? Some great stuff there - really soothing when I'm feeling particularly anxious/pissed off.

No, but I love metal in general :) I always listen when I feel overpowering emotions

Yeah, I'd rather listen to some heavy metal and feel angry rather than be sad or emotionless. It stops the physical drain that being sat awake on your computer at night sometimes causes (it does for me anyway).

A band that's helped me a lot is called All That Remains, They're newer albums are the much more softer heart-felt songs and others make you want to go outside and punch the postman.

I digress, but their best songs are Six, This Calling, Two Weeks, Overcome, Become The Catalyst, Holding On, What If I Was Nothing, Asking Too Much

Metal helps me in more ways than words can describe. There is a song for every mood and it can transport me to whatever mind state I want to be in.

I don't look like a metal head but I do love metal. It's my favorite type of music.

I look like one I guess but it pisses me off when people get ragged on for not looking "metal". Only thing I hate about metal is the obsession with genre categorisation and then judging people by what genre they listen too or tell them the bands they listen to are shit. I hate a lot of metal bands because they are not my thing but I'm happy knowing other people are listening to them because it's still metal.

\m/ Keep on being metal SensualGirl

I am guilty of loving all genres from glam to death metal...symphonic,thrash,power...as long as it is good

Thanks Varg!

My thoughts exactly. I don't see why people have to dress metal to admit they listen to it. Same with punk rock. "You're not a punk rocker" or "you're not a metal head." To make matters worse I'm black. I have been bullied for not liking rap or r&b. People would constantly pester me about it and call me a race traitor. I said rap is misogynistic and people, women of all people, said "oh please, rock is just as misogynistic as rap, you just don't listen to enough of it to know." There's no way that's true. I remember my exboyfriend said "I think you listen to rock because you're depressed and in a dark place." Why must I be psychoanalyzed in that way? Why can't people enjoy what they enjoy? Why do we all have to be uniform and obvious?

Anyway thanks for the encouragement.

Lots of white people give other white people shit for liking metal as well given how widespread rap has become. My partner doesn't like it very much but she likes lots of mainstream commercial pop stuff that makes me want to vomit lol.
