Its strange to me that depressive music makes me feel good, but happier songs about getting over depression make me sad lol

It makes sense to me. I think the happier songs are just those reminders of people who don't get it and actually think you have direct control of your emotional condition. Depressive music shows understanding, which for many of us, is hard to come by in the real world.

this time i'll not bother with links, but here are some other good DBM bands:

Drudkh
Make a change... Kill yourself
Gris
Nachtmystium
Austere
Drapsnatt
Sui Caedere

and this is worth linking without question: Lunar Aurora Findling - YouTube

*******

Grevona: some really great suggestions there, even a couple i had not yet heard. :)
i'd agree that Darkthrone in general can't be considered DBM, but they have shown certain tendencies towards it for sure. then again, they worked quite a bit with vikernes, so it's not too strange.

When I think depressive I think death/doom, and mostly melodic. Bands ranging from Swallow the Sun to Saturnus and some Agalloch. Can't honestly think of others that I care much for right now.. maybe later. :/

BM doesn't do much for a depressive atmosphere, IME.

Will need to look into the bands posted in this thread. Obviously I don't get into much underground music, but I especially have a lot of respect for Norwegian metal. :)

Erm, forgot about Shape of Despair, Forest of Shadows, Whispering Forest, Mortuus, Summoning, Bethlehem, and Limbonic Art.. I guess.

Tempered: Doom metal is indeed depressive, and Swallow the Sun are fantastic. :)

as much as i love Limbonic Art i don't see how they can be classified as depressive, but with Bethlehem you are spot on. Dictius Te Necare is one of my favorite albums hands down.

you should check out the song i linked back in the thread, Peste Noire's Dueill Angoisseux, because BM does indeed lend itself to a depressing atmosphere, and Burzum is probably the biggest influence on depressive Black Metal. anyone who says Hvis Lyset Tar Oss isn't a depressive album, haven't heard it. ;)
