Have you ever read Ender's Game? It's by Orson Scott Card. It falls under the Sci Fi Genre, but really his books are about people - that' s just the setting...
It's a really good book - I read almost all of his books... he's good.
google.books description:
Winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards. In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn't make the cut—young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training. Ender's skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play at mock battles in zero gravity. Yet growing up in an artificial community of young soldiers Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry from his peers, pressure from the adult teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders. His psychological battles include loneliness, fear that he is becoming like the cruel brother he remembers, and fanning the flames of devotion to his beloved sister. Is Ender the general Earth needs? But Ender is not the only result of the genetic experiments. The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Ender's two older siblings are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world. If, that is, the world survives.

They bought the book rights to make this into a movie many years ago, and I'm not sure if I wish they would... because it is mostly a psychological book - how he feels, what he thinks.. you watch him grow up in this *three* book series (I don't like the others that much)... but I have no idea how they would film the movie because of that - so much of it is about his internal struggle... It would take an excellent script and the right director... sorry... :)
I hope you like it. I'm a big fan.

Thanks, that book sounds good. It kind of sounds like that film that had arnold swartsinaga (cant spell his surname) in it and they trained soldiers for something but i cant really remember it tbh, watched it years ago. I love series books as well which is good. I just finished the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan that was epic!!!! but it was really good.
Thanks again anyway!!!
If you have any other ideas let me know cause i get through books really quickly
:D

oh and TH White's Once and Future King.. about King Arthur's training + Merlin - the basis for Disney's the Sword and the Stone but so much more the masterpiece than Disney... I loved that book too. :)
The book is a compilation of 4 shorter books: The Sword in the Stone (1938), The Queen of Air and Darkness (1939), The Ill-Made Knight (1940), and The Candle in the Wind {1958).
(editorial blurbs:)
The series is a retelling of the Arthurian legend, from Arthur's birth to the end of his reign, and is based largely on Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte Darthur.
The whole world knows and loves this book. It is the magical epic of King Arthur and his shining Camelot; of Merlin and Owl and Guinevere; of beasts who talk and men who fly, of wizardry and war. It is the book of all things lost and wonderful and sad. It is the fantasy masterpiece by which all others are judged.

I doubt highly that Ender's Game is *anything* like Arnold Swartzenhegger's movie...
Like I said, it's a psychological book - and this is a (battle) school, with gifted children who fly in antigravity... but still act like children...
It's a one of a kind book, as far as I know... (well, until he wouldn't stop writing about his own series that is... - orig published in 94.
(I don't know if anyone really knows how or cares to spell his name...)
oh + you're welcome. I love to read too...
Literature, Sci Fi, Fantasy, used to like Mysteries, kids books, some non-fic...
If you have any favs... :)

Sorry didnt mean to offend!!!!!!
I just meant the soldiers were selected and trained from childhood which IS a similarity.
Whats with the criticism over the spelling of his name, theres no need to have a go!
I didnt mean to offend i was just making conversation!

Yes, I whole-heartedly agree. (I've known some people to think that his stuff is weird, and I wouldn't be surprised to think that some think he's too acerbic, but that's part of the reason why I like his stuff!) I've learned that it's sometimes hard to come by his stuff in podunk libraries and bookstores, though. I once asked a lady at a used book store if they had anything but Kurt Vonnegut, and she looked at me as if I had three heads. (Eh, she probably likes Harlequin romances. )
