Default Conquering Anxiety / Awareness book excerpt

Found this to be an interesting idea, from someone who has been here...
-------------------------------------------
Anxious people share certain types of personality traits which are responsible for a good deal of their anxiety. Such people are often analytical worriers who dwell on things and obsess about their fears. They want things to be a certain way and have extremely high expectations. As a result, they are often disappointed and anxious. Winning the approval of others is important to them, and at all costs they must appear to be in control. Anticipation and dread of negative events are a large part of their thought process, and at the smallest threat of a challenge, they tend to overreact.
It is this type of thinking and reacting that causes the biochemical response which in turn creates anxiety. It is impossible to recover until you are willing to take a serious look at your specific personality traits, and be willing to change them. When you change the way you think, you change the way you respond and react. As a result, you change the biochemical reaction which will minimize and eventually prevent the anxiety.
------from the book: From Panic to Power: Proven Techniques to Calm... etc by Lucinda Bassett
Still liking the book at Chapter 3... will update on usefulness...

Ok... Here in a update on Chapters 2 and 3.. if anyone wants any more detail on any particular subject, just let me know...
I wonder if I should put this in sickness or other or somewhere...
Ah well... Chapter 4 is kind of long w/ a lot of detail - I may do that one in sections... Let me know if this is useful at all, please.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chpt 2: Symptoms of anxiety and Panic Attacks.
Causes of Anxiety - Genetics, Environment, Biochemistry, Personality traits
Explains how anxiety starts and affects our body - which causes more stress, which causes more anxiety, and so forth, snowballing into a heap of out of control feelings, confusion and/or anxiety attacks… The author explains ways to stop this process in the very beginning…
Also discusses anxiety in children

Chpt 3: Healing (introduction to)
No matter what caused your anxiety disorder or panic attacks, the way home will be the path of acceptance, trust and change in perception.
6-part Approach to Self-Control
1. Recognize that you are feeling anxious. Accept your body feelings as a symptom of your anxiety and a sign that something is bothering you. Don’t let these feelings scare you.
2. Try to figure out what is really bothering you. Is it some type of conflict you don’t want to deal with? Is it a scary thought? Is that a ridiculous expectation that you have on yourself? How about the TV program that you watched last night? Did you drink caffeine or eat chocolate? What is getting to you?
3. Give yourself permission to feel anxious about whatever is bothering you. “Of course I feel anxious because I haven’t flown in a while, or I don’t like confronting someone. It’s okay and normal to have anxiety.
4. Use compassionate self-talk to move yourself through the anxious time. It will pass. Examples might be, “It’s just anxiety. It will go away. I will not lose control. I can still go about my business feeling spaced out. It won’t hurt me.â€

You're Welcome.
Just let me know if you want me to post any more chapter notes...
I believe I read past chapter 4, but I didn't know if anyone was still interested...
I could still post notes, if anyone was... just let me know, if it's desired, or I won't.
Otherwise, I do recomend the book... I really did like it.
