havnt read this book in a long long time but i remember that it is a classic. I know they ban books; Do they also try and minimize language to make it less vague? or am i merging 2 books together?

Well, they change the books to where they don't contradict anything to do with the Party. Same with all literature and media. And in the book they were developing a whole new language to make things less vague and also to eliminate thoughtcrime so there would be no way to go against the Party. Newspeak.

Definitely a great book, but the style it's deliberately written in makes it hard to trudge through. I also liked Animal Farm with the classic "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others."

We read that last year in English. I wasn't paying attention through any of it, but I do remember that part. Maybe I should read it again. Haha.

I tried to read 1984, but I didn't quite understand it. Maybe I could pick it up again, but I read Animal Farm in 11th grade and loved it.

It's short enough that you can read it in one sitting.

One of my favourite books. The only problem is that it always makes me angry to read because it is just as applicable to politics today as it was when it was written. If you like 1984 deffinately try Animal Farm and Down and Out in Paris and London. That's Orwell's autobiography about the time he spent on the street. It was the last book I read before going backpacking and I deffinately recomend it.

1984 is possibly my favourite book ever. i have read it like, five times. XD :3
I was SOOO upset when I found out we couldn't be reading it till Junior or Senior year.{I am a Sophomore}
Anwyays, yeah.

it's just...amazing. the ending, yeah. It pissed me off. And every time I read it I get pissed, but...XD
Another good book to try is Brave New World. <3
Huxely was genious. I think 1984 is SO better, XD, but Brave New World is was more like, similar, per se, to todays society.
^^

1984 is a good book. Its something everyone should read.

I also like the whole authoritarian/totalitarian inspired film - V for Vendetta.

I wish people would keep these of things in mind when they go demanding new laws that hurt our civil liberties.
