Does anyone else get panicked and paranoid in public? Makes me want to hide in fear sometimes just the worst feeling ever.

Social anxiety can be very scary and can snowball quite quickly into a panic attack. I have foudn several things that help:

Sometimes I remove myselffrom the situation and take a deep breath. I Remind myself that it is only this situation and try not to let my thoughts snowball into something else.
I also use distraction. I find a way that I can set mymind on something that is more relaxing and calming to you. For me, it's saying the rosary. I will start saying the rosary and I can feel myself start to calm down. Sometimes to distract myself I will play a game in my head, for instance I will count by threes, 3,6,9,12,15,18, etc. If I pick something difficult enough it can completely distract me from my feelings of unease.

Does it stop you from going out often? I find myself trying to get out of social situations these days :(

I think what you mean is agoraphobia? Fear of crowded places. It's very troubling to have, specially if you always have people around you.

Same as Diaijah, my agoraphobia started when I entered university. I deal with it though, stuff like listening to music, avoiding eye contact and only engaging in social interactions when needed, like when buying something. That won't help you get over it, but it will prevent you from having a panic attack in the middle of a crowd.

You know the old saying, if you can't deal with it, avoid it.

I have real issues with social engagements. I worry about them for weeks and it builds to a crescendo before I have the event. I worry I'll be a Billy no mates in the corner looking really sad with no one to talk to. I think everyone thinks I am weird and boring and doesn't want to know me. I saw a programme the other night with a girl at a party who was totally ignored and when she went to try to talk to anyone, they moved away. My worst nightmare
