well my think with food is that im scared i didnt make or buy enough. like today i went and got a small roast for me and my mom for mothers day, and on the way home i kept telling myself it wont be enough for us both, i shouldve gotten the bigger one. on my moms bday, i made ahuge pot of speghatti for everyone, and i kept telling myself add more add more, so i did, and i ended up havig to throw away more then half a pot of speghatti noodles bc of it. and then i regretted for listening to myself.

mm.. I think it is easy to listen too much to what you are told, and less about what actually makes sense... (Like the food example). Our bodies are actually made to handle a good amount of bacteria etc. and it is actually bad for us to live too "germ free" (!) I know in the media and such we are told constantly that this and this are dangerous.. Though usually it is not true.. I think the more I've studied the more skeptical I've become. I usually do not believe anything until I've had it proved, something that I think helps me be less paranoid. Could it help you to think like that too you think? (I am a big worrier though.. )

(((heart))) i can do that with shopping, too. i try to buy healthy stuff but then stuff happens during the week & i can't get to prepare some of it or i feel too exhausted. :(

thank u, mitza. i know u know a lot about science, but how do i filter out what's "proven" or not? makes me angry, why do they write/teach things when they aren't proven? or do they just have all these safety warnings, etc. so they don't get sued? i think the more i read, the more i turn into a moron.

(((((((((((((((bluegirl))))))))))))))))))))

I don't think you are a moron, and I think you get wiser when you read. What I use to do is to try to judge my source of information as to how reliable it is. For example, I am much more skeptical to what I read in the local newspaper than what I read in scientific articles in well known publications. One reason is that before anything is published they have to go through a control comité whose job it is to try to falsify the information in the article. It is also written by at least two people and both are responsible for the correctness of the information..

Anyway... It is not easy to judge what is right and wrong, no.. So I guess try to look it up in different sources before you make up your mind.

i dunno, i think i think too much.
i wonder sometimes if i should partly blame my education for at least part of the mess i am. one example- algebra. we did so many intricate and complex problems that i had to sit and go over the problem with a fine tooth comb to make sure i didn't miss one of the many many steps.
articles and articles of how to keep your germs to yourself, how to keep from getting other's germs, all about e.coli, how long to store food, how long it's ok to leave food out, what temperature to cook meat to so it's "safe", blah blah blah blah.
does anyone understand what i'm talking about?

You're right, Blue Girl. The more we know, the more stress we have. Whenever I go out shopping or go into a new building, I always take note of the entrances/exits and muse over the level of difficulty of getting out should there be an emergency (like a fire). Sometimes it drives me batty because when I'm in a place that has poor accessibility, it makes me nervous to stay there - I either have to force myself to keep put or run like h*ll.

I know how you feel, but I disagree that it has to cause any more anxiety at all.
Sounds like anxiety is being treated on a basis to basis rather than overall approach on how to perceive things (without anxiety) in general.

thanks, enigma, i guess i didn't make one point very clear. the algebra was an example of having to be meticulous with the work, which i believe contributed to an overall attitude of being overcareful in other areas of my life. there were other influences too, but college played its part.
