I used to take it, it's a benzo, slows your central nervous system down and stops anxiety/panic attacks. It's not too strong tho, and I never had any negative side effects from it, it's not too strong so it's not addictive like xanax but don't get me wrong it can be.

Ativan (lorazepam, Loram in my country) worked wonder for my panic attacks...
As Venom said, it is benzo, and it is addictive, so u mustn't stop it abruptly.
The only reason I don't take it anymore is that I decided to stop medications and try on my own-which failured:((, as I wrote in Anxiety Topic.

But you can see its effects very soon. Your mood will improve, actually it will help you to be-you. It will not make you sleepy or drowsy, but your night sleep will improve because you will be relaxed and your PA will stop.

Good luck!

If I am to rate it from one to 10-I give it a ten

I've been on ativan for a litle over a year, it does help, and it not toooo addictive, not like zanax. I hve found the only probelm with it is that It seems to take a higher doage than the Dr prescribes for me. I take 3 times a day. I've heard that it comes in higher dosages, thinking about asking my DR. about it.

Today I went on a doctor. I was prescribed sertaline (i write generic names cause i do not no how they are named in ur country) and Atvan (lorazepam).
I was prescribed 3 times dayly each of 1 mg.
Doctor told me first we need to calm dowm the neurovegetative system, than we will talk....He saw how exausted I was, I was breathing like fish on a dry, so he said calm down first, than we will go on....

I left the office sad, cause mu battle started again, and I hoped I will never ever take medicines...anymore.

Anyway, Ativan has already started working.
Its good, best from this group.

I hope you find some relief LadyM, constantly being upset and anxious isn't good, You gotta give yourself a break.
After you calm down a bit, maybe you canget back with your Dr. or therapist you can focus on finding relief and not just on how anxious you are.

I take Ativan. My doc told me I can take it daily or as needed, when I feel panic coming on. So I do that, and it helps. It takes about an hour for me to relax, but since it makes me a bit drowsy I prefer not to take it everyday. Everyone says xanax is stronger and works better, but I always felt the ativan helped more. But I also have a bad memory so maybe I'm thinking of something else.

Ativan works wonder for me...
The only problem is that I feel unhappy that I have to take something-to function normal...I mean, I can't accept that...
Otherwise, yeah, Ativan is maybe the best from this group of drags, it instantly calms down panic attack, brings relief, its like putting u instantly back to normal.

I have been on Diazepam (valium) and Ativan. I prefer diazepam because it stays longer in the system, but it is an old school drug. A lot of doctors won't prescribe it anymore. Lately though I have been taking Ativan the sublingual kind is the best. Under the tongue it enters the bloodstream much faster. I work in a pharmacy so I know what the good stuff is. As to side effects, not so much-maybe a little sluggishness? Sometimes I get migraines but I can't prove that there is a connection. The pharmacist I work with said that long term use or abuse of this drug can impair your memory. So, that is something to think about, but if it is only taken when required it shouldn't be an issue.
