Default Anxiety makes me impulsive

Hi all,

I've been having a host of health issues lately among other things, and I've noticed being anxious leads me to make impulsive decisions.

I am a writer and I woke up late the other day. A couple clients asked for revisions and I was already behind on my work and started to feel overwhelmed. I sort of flipped out and cancelled three small (but paying) writing jobs from a new client. In the greater scheme of things the amount of revisions requested was small compared to the volume that I write, I just flipped out because I had a lot of work.

Also I am starting a new job soon, but lately I've been having a lot of health problems. I know some of it is due to stress. Right now I have time but cant check out the issues because with my poor insurance, theres no way I'll be able to get seen in time. However, once I am at my new job and my new, better quality insurance starts, I don't want to have to take time off all the time. At least one of the issues is important. The ER doctor found a cyst which could be the cause of chronic pain which completely debilitates me for a few days each month. I got to the point that I was so worried about balancing my health issues at my new job I thought I would just quit and not even start this job. This is dumb because I need the money so I may as well try to work it out.

Any tips on starting a new job while managing health issues? Any tips on getting through anxious thoughts so that you don't make impulsive decisions?

I suggest that you write down your anxious thoughts, particularly those that lead to impulsive decisions. That will hopefully make you more aware of them when they appear, so that you can better identify when you're at risk of making impulsive decisions.

I'm sorry to hear about your cyst. It's nothing serious I hope? Are you able to have it removed now, or do you have to wait until you have better insurance?

I wish I had some advice for starting a new job with health problems. It would be good to deal with as many things as you can before you start your job, but I guess that's pretty obvious... Which health problems are you most worried about with your new job?

Thanks for the reply. Writing it out before I do anything definitely makes sense.

I am worried that all of these health problems could mean something more serious is wrong. Of all the concers, I am most worried about the cyst. Without being too graphic, the cyst is on/near my ovaries. i've had horrible cramps for years and more recently my hormones have been out of wack, so I feel I should deal with it.

I am pretty sure that the doctor is going to want an ultra sound again and then to view the results. The hardest part is getting an appt. it usually takes 2 weeks to get an appt and my new job starts in 2 weeks. I just dont know that with this insurance I'll get to see a doctor and get the cyst removed within 2 weeks.

I am still going to try though. They do have walkin hours. Please wish me luck!

Ah, I see, that makes sense. An ovarian cyst would definitely throw your system out of wack. Ya, it's definitely important to get that looked at if it's bothering you. I understand that you'd be worried about it, but I hope you won't stress about it too much.

I think the thing to do with walk-in clinics is to get there right when they open. At least that's what works for me; I usually get in first by showing up slightly before they officially open. Good luck Dreamer!
