I chose St John's Wort because it was more natural, easier to get, and did help quite a bit. It addressed my anxiety well. The problem was I wasn't comfortable taking it on a long-term basis since the studies to show it's safe that long aren't there. Once I was taking it for 6 weeks and still needing it, I felt it better to switch to a medication that had been tested and approved, and important to work with my Dr as well. I know St John's Wort can affect other medications such as birth control, and I wasn't comfortable with worrying about other longer term effects. That said, once I switched to Celexa I found that it worked better.
