Default What do you do to help cope with your depression?

Lately I've found myself a bit on edge, sad and partly irritable some of the normal things I do to cope simply aren't working and I don't want to put all of my burdens on my family. It's bad enough that I get in my moods where its hard to cope. Was wondering what everyone else does that helps them cope, even if its one thing.

I listen to music and draw. My artwork usually reflects how I'm feeling at the moment, so It's a great way to relieve some stress.

That or play video games :P
Nothing gets my mind off of real life like a nice video game.

That's why I love video games so much. Because for a little while I get to go somewhere else and be someone else and escape.

To be totally honest, I think it's a great therapy. I'm not talking about realistic games like Call of Duty, but playing games like Zelda, Mario, LittleBigPlanet, Pokemon... stuff like that, really makes you happy.

I agree with the video games!
I'm addicted to Harvest Moon for wii. I can sit down and play it for hours, and it's so calming, it completely distracts me if I'm upset.
Also, exercise. In psych class our prof showed us piles of studies that show how much exercise helps depression. It's true! Plus, it makes you feel super good about yourself, and you can try tons of fun different things.

agreed, i find for me that the more sick violant and disturbing a game is the more it helps me releave the stress of everyday life, unfortunatly for me, they dont make games like that anymore

killing floor and dead space are the only ones i have for that.

and mafia 2, mowing peaple down with a tommy gun never felt so good

i know im sick

you could get a punching back and hit it with a baseball bat, until you cant no more. that feels good. plus good exorcise.

thanks for the suggestions, i'll keep it in mind. for whatever reason the video games haven't been working as a coping mechanism for me. i think i miss having friends to hang out with in my day to day life a lot and i dont know how to fix that. i have to admit though, i didn't give the non realistic games a thought so i'll have to look into those to see if they would help me.

I write music, I'm not too good as I haven't even got a year of practice under my belt yet, but, I think I'm getting there. Oh, I sleep too.
