Default Questions about chronic pain

I have a few questions about chronic pain that I would like answered. I don't really know what it is. I want to understand it properly so I don't make a mistake.

I've mentioned this before in my posts, but I have a severe headache that persists into different areas of my head, mainly, my brain and jaw. (I actually think I have a gum problem) It has lasted for more than three years and it has been thoroughly consistent. It's with me every single day and never leaves. So far I've been unable to treat it because I don't know what it is.

I wanted to know, would this be classified as chronic pain? . I'm too afraid to talk to my doctors about this because I'm young and I don't think they'll take me seriously. I think they believe i'm jumping to conclusions and self diagnosing myself. I've constantly mentioned it before to them, and it's been a main focal point in our conversations but I don't think they really understand because I've been using the word "headache". I've been very depressed about it and I don't think I've been getting proper treatment. If anyone could answer this, thanks. I just don't know what to do anymore, I can't keep up with my studies.

Hello. I came across your post and wanted you to know that I have had the same problem for over 20 years. It started in college and has continued. The good news is that I now know what it is. I played sports all of my life and was in several car wrecks. Well, it has messed up my neck and jaw. I have those exact same headache when they are "out" of place. The solution for me (and last resort) was a chiropractor. It took a few visits but now if it starts hurting again, I know he can "fix it"...at least temporarily. I've had MRI's, x-rays...you name it! Anything can pull your jaw and neck or even your back out. Some people are just prone to doing that...maybe their muscles aren't supporting their bone structure correctly or they came out of the birth canal that way. At any rate, it might be worth a try. I have to go to the chiropractor after every dentist visit or else my head feels like it's been in a vice...I get a BAD migraine!! But yes, you are experiencing chronic pain. If it's real to you then it IS real and you need to address it. Gotta be your own advocate---good luck! (BTW, I suggest a chiro that practices "soft touch". They use hand manipulation and a small instrument to "tap/place" your jaw/head/neck (whatever) back in instead of cracking it. Yikes!)
