Default Natural Depression Remedies - SAMe and Holy Basil

Just wanted to let people know about this combination, and give it a thumbs up!

A few weeks ago, I finally made it down to a well-known health food store where I live to see if they'd be able to help me with my depression/anxiety. The person who I talked to there seemed very knowledgeable, and prescribed a combination of Holy Basil and SAMe. It seems to be working out very well, in fact I didn't realize how well it was working until I ran out of it! Without it, I now feel totally lost again, but before I ran out, I was feeling better than I'd felt in a long time - not completely cured, but good enough to start making the changes needed to get my life back on track.

I've tried many different traditional antidepressants over the years, but I could never tolerate the side effects. There are almost no side effects with these natural remedies though - I have a slightly upset stomach sometimes after taking the SAMe, but it's very mild and doesn't last very long. I find minor nausea to be quite tolerable compared to sexual dysfunction and insomnia that I encountered with other antidepressants I've tried.

I'm glad that worked for you. I'm way into natural cures as opposed to medication, and this was helpful to read :)

Hi,

Is it ok to take SAMe and Holy Basil while taking Anti-depressants?

You'd have to talk to your doctor about that, I'm really not sure. Ideally, you wouldn't need to take them both at the same time, since the holy basil & SAMe combination would be taking the place of a traditional anti-depressant, but again... your doctor would be the one to talk to about it.

Is the sam-e still working out for you? Wish they'd drop the price on it a bit.

For the most part it is. I still have some rough patches, but most of the time I feel much better than before I started taking it. It does get quite expensive though... especially with all the other supplements I'm taking.

I found some "Tulsi" Tea at a whole food market. Its supposed to help calm too. I've taken it basically when I feel sick, but maybe it work if I enjoyed a cup a day or something too?

Tea with honey actually is pretty nice to have after you get used to it. (and honey is good for you too in right amounts)

Have you tried the Tulsi Tea?
