Has anyone ever tried light therapy for bi-polar or depression? If so does it work?

I've heard of light therapy for sleeping, but never depression. Actually, wait... I think I may have heard of it... the whole theory that sunlight makes you happy... whether it's just because you absorb something physically from sunlight or it's the brightness I don't know... in any event, I think there may be something out there about it. Not sure, though.

I can tell you that sitting in the dark doesn't do much for depression :)

From what I understand light theory helps people see things in a different light. (pardon the pun didn't think about it till I was ready to send this) It is something they use in the countries where there is little sunlight, to help maintain a healty balance of life. It has been proven that light such as sunlight makes people nuralogically think better and has been proven to increase the chemicals in your brain to think more clearly. For an example you see more depressed people near the end of the year. Reason being the seasons change. The days get shorter and the nights longer. Just look at when it rains outside it puts a lot of people in a bad mood because of the lack of sunlight. I think it is all about how your brains chemicals are working to be honest. Just an opinon though.
