Well, some people take offense to when "God" is mentioned. Just wanted to be sure people here understand my intention is to comfort and help, not "preach".

Allthings,

I'm a pagan and there is no way i or anyone i know would take offence at other peoples ways of coping.

I don't think you are preaching. :)

Default exercise saved me from complete insanity

i started biking last year just to get out of the house and as a way to burn off anger...believe me, i know it if i skimp. it's a great way to space out and there is just this feeling of being refreshed...to motivate myself i keep a book with my distances/times... now i also walk/run rollerblade, and throw rocks...no really, i set my timer for 10 minutes and did it nonstop...i highly recommend this

JoeyGirl,
I agree with the bike ridingand in general, exercise. Exercise helps to ward off depression as well as provides you with more stamina in general.

Default exercise as medication

My doctor told me that I HAVE to exercise for thirty minutes a day if I want to lower my medication. She stated that exercising works on the serontinin level in the brain boosting it. So it is like taking a low dose Zoloft, Prozac. Needless to say since I haven't been able to exercise- I'm back up to my normal dose.

I like going on long walks. I always feel a little bit better after going on a walk.

Excercise and diet definately boost seratonin levels in the brain and help control those blood sugar spikes that can triggrr a depressive episode. I take Salomon oil for its b-complex and omega acids as they can increase seratonin levels. St. john wort helps some also.

I'd love to start excercising again. The problem is getting myself to do it.

Exercise - YES. What kind? Why? What else?

Undoubtedly, exercise may help. However, there are many questions. What kind of exercise is better? Why the exercise may help? What else can be used? We come inevitably to the question: What is the cause of depression or, generally, of the mental disorder? I my view, the best answer is in the article at http://www.medical-hypotheses.com/article/S0306-9877(08)00170-9/abstract
It explains many important items, including deep-rooted cause of the mental disorder; connection between etiology, pathogenesis, and therapy; and methods for the treatment without medication.
