Please explain and/or define?

Is this alternative medicine? If not, what type of Dr. prescribes this treatment?

I'm in my 5th week of transcranial magnetic stimultaion (TMS). What do you need to know? Please do the research first and I'll try to fill in the gaps.

Thank you for responding. My question is this:
Do you experience any negative effects? Has it worked for you so far?

For the most part i have done my research however I am reluctant to go through because I suffer from TMJ - where I clench my jaws and get painful head aches... do you think this will make it worse, or maybe even help?

If you can share you experience in what a typical session is like, that would be so helpful as well. If you dont want to publicly share can you please private message me, as I would be for ever grateful to hear your experience.

DoubleRainbow,
To answer your questions, I don't think TMS would impact your TMJ. The pulses that come in 30 second sequences feel like you are tapping on the side of your head with the end of your finger. In other words, they are pretty irritating but not intolerable. I bring my Ipod and listen to podcasts while in the chair and the thing that surprises me the most is that about halfway through the session I often drift off to sleep, something I have trouble doing in almost every other setting. I have experienced no negative side effects and am experiencing some mood elevation, although nothing dramatic at this point. I have a lot of stuff going on in my personal life so it's hard to tell how much those stressors are reducing the positive effects of the TMS. Headaches can be a reality but I sometimes take an over the counter pain reliever before the session and that seems to work. Probably the lesson I've learned the most is that depression has a function. Its a way of not dealing and when it lifts you are still left with the same life problems, albeit much better equipped. This therapy is so non invasive and lacking in side effects that, from my perspective, Its well worth a shot. Hope this helps.
