When I can actually get myself into the gym I'm so glad I did it. I just do light cardio but it does wonders. I feel so much better for the rest of the day. The trouble is making myself do it. xD I used to be in the habit of going to the gym daily but then I sorta fell off the wagon. I just have to remind myself that I will feel better for it, even if I'm dreading it.

As much as I don't want to admit it, exercise really does help me a lot. Especially when I'm on my Wii using the punching bag. Not only does it get the adrenaline pumping, but it's a really good way to get out your stress and anger on something you can't physically or emotionally hurt.

I exercise daily. I run 4 miles a day 5x a week. I let some steam off and feel a bit more relaxed.

It entirely depends on the person. For example, myself. I'm incredibly absorbed over my physical appearance and have always wanted to improve it, over the years I did some minor weights, running(joined soccer) and did decent jogging by myself. I often quit and started again, which really wasn't helping especially considering I disappoint myself. Basically if you have self esteem issues try not to set the bar too high if you plan on exercising because it will probably make you feel worse when you don't meet those expectations. Before the winter I ran for months straight, and I've been doing weights for the last 3-4 months, 3 sessions per week(1 1/2 hour sessions) with good results. Personally exercise gets me in a leveled mood, I don't feel good, but I don't feel bad either. Well, it doesn't get me leveled all the time, but the problem is after the adrenaline wears off I feel extremely tired and sometimes feel worse than before. When you first get started you more than likely won't want to do it because you feel lethargic and it is hard after long periods of inactivity trying to start up exercising. It gets easier as time goes by especially if you start to see improvement.

Also, some tips as far as exercising. If you are trying to lose weight then running/sprinting/swimming would be the best exercises. Sprinting(not walking, jogging, running, I mean full flight and breaks inbetween) will burn the most amount of body fat out of pretty much anything. If you combine it with weights(doing weights before) you will significantly increase the amount of fat you burn while at rest. Getting bulkier and getting cut are a whole different story concerning the amount of lbs you lift and reps and sets that you do with weights.

Hello Friends.......

Regular exercise can be an effective way to treat some forms of depression. Physical activity causes brain pleasure centres to be stimulated and leads to feelings of wellbeing. Exercise can also be an effective treatment for anxiety. Some research studies indicate that regular exercise may be as effective as other treatments like medication to relieve milder depression. Generally, exercise has a place in treatment as part of a comprehensive approach to the illness.

Thanks

There's a lot of new-ish medical research out there that exercise can help depression quite a bit. Both immediate and long term. Granted, it probably won't "cure" you, but it can certainly take the edge off. Like every other treatment for depression, it all works together. Meds, exercise, diet, therapy, self-talk, spirituality .. all those things work together.

Today I walked/jogged a mile. I got my heart rate up and I sweat. I did feel a tiny bit different afterward. I felt the endorphins but not much. I will go again 2m. More jogging, less walking.

I am starting to jog too, building it up slowly. Adding that to the swimming I do every week, hopefully I will lose some weight aswell as feel better.

Hi, I agree that exercising can help in so many ways, and am posting so that I can be a part of this thread. I used to run, jog and play soccer a lot. Right now, I'm just so depressed (plus tiredness from medication) that I haven't been able to do so.. but I would like to contribute and find strength + ideas from here as well. Thanks..

Cheers!
