Default Acceptence

Say you make plans to do something outside but on that day it is pouring with rain. I think most people would feel annoyed at the rain in this situation. How would you feel yourself? But the reason people feel annoyed is because they have this view that things ought to go the way they want and when they don't it's the situations fault for not going along with their plans.
Things only happen, then we comment on them. It rains then we say that the rain is annoying. You see, at first everything is just as it is, then we form all sorts of opinions. On it's own the rain is no problem, it's nothing at all. Neither good or bad. People make it good or bad. Do you see? Any situation in life is the same. Everything is only as it is, nothing more. If you call it bad, you make it bad. A broken leg is only a broken leg. If you call it bad, it's bad and you feel bad about it. If you simply accept the fact for what it is, then you see that it's not good or bad, it's okay. No problem!
Please apply this to anything that you feel is causing you problems. For me, i have minor scoliosis (twisted spine with a slightly concave chest) and i used to feel this was very unfair, why do i have to be this way? But now i see, it's just the way it is. The reason i felt bad about it was because of my thoughts about it. On it's own it's no problem, but when i think it's bad, then it appears to be bad ad i feel bad. Now though i simply accept it, and it's okay. It doesn't bother me at all.
It is a fact to say that there is nothing either good or bad, fundamentally. The rain is only the rain, squint teeth and only squint teeth and a broken leg is only a broken leg.
This does not mean to accept everything as it is and simply not care. It means to accept thing and realise that all opinions are only that, opinions. If you see someone being cruel to a dog, don't just say, "well it's neither good or bad so it doesn't matter". Fundamentally this is true, but you can still realise that the dog is unhappy and therefore do something to change the situation.

I feel i lack a certain ability with words, but i hope my meaning comes across in this post :)

I hope this helps some of you :)

Please leave some feedback. Thank you

I read one of your posts which has helped me. It said that if you're having bad thoughts just simply let them be. Then they will disappear eventually, like waves rolling back to the sea.

Your effort is much appreciated, thank you.

I think your post is a good reminder that we often choose our opinion about a lot of things, giving them a meaning that is positive or negative when they are not by themselves either one. If we realize that is what we are doing, we can change how we view things and change our situation. It is valuable information and I think you phrased it well enough that others should understand your meaning. Your post is good for others to read!

I do like what you say, but one thing about that particular point of view that I can't quite wrap my arms around is that sometimes things are not just what they are. To use your example, a broken leg isn't just a broken leg and nothing more. Whether we accept that is simply a break or not, there is still hurt and pain involved, which would make it more than just something that "is".

You know, this is when I miss my college days from long ago. We used to stay up all night talking about just this kind of thing. Ah, youth!

That's partly true, there is pain and hurt aswell, but the pain is only pain. Neither good or bad, unless you make it good or bad. If you allow the pain just to be there without making comments or judgements about it then it's no problem. Problems only come when we start to comment on things. So we actually make the problems ourselves.

i don't know. i think pain is painful for a reason. (emotional or physical) pain can be a warning that something is wrong, and sometimes we need to prevent that pain and protect ourselves. if we didn't, we could wind up maimed or dead, or emotionally wounded, so i don't know that accepting pain is a good way to go.

i don't know if i'm explaining it well. i believe if we just accept things, we don't seek to improve them.

You're right, blind acceptance is no good either. What i mean is not to dwell on things. So if you consider something to be bad, not to cling to that feeling, especially if that clinging is causing more problems than the actual feelings, which is often the case. You can accept something but still see that changing it would be beneficial. Say you strain a muscle, you can simply accept that this has happened and not get annoyed at this happening, but still realise that by doing some exercises you can help to heal the strain. Then there is no problem and you can get on with recovering. But if you get annoyed that this has happened to you, you feel bad. Which can be okay at times as it can encourage you to work hard and recover faster. But if you dwell on the annoyed feeling, then it's no good as you might be so angry that you don't do any exercises to help you recover.
I hope this is clear :)
