Has anyone tried 5 HTP?

I have tried a number of AD's and have struggled with all of them. After having had seratonin syndrome I am limited in what I can take and how much. After getting twitchy on the last one I decided to stop trying to find an AD that works, but wonder if that's really the best decision. I have read about 5 HTP and am curious if any of you have had any luck with it.

5 htp is a tremendous product. I've used it for months without any side effects.

This one says it's "vegetarian suitable"

and do you feel it has helped? Did you notice anything right away or is it something that needs to build up like so many of the AD's?

Thanks for your feedback!

* remember this is my personal experience. I in no way claim to know what I'm talking about *

Well, when I started taking it, I was already taking Saint Johns Wort. The combination of the two seemed to have noticable effects almost immediately - sort of like waves of happy thoughts that would come every so often.

Over time, it has lost its effectiveness a bit. Like I said, I take quite a few different supplements, so it is a bit of a juggling act to ensure I'm getting the results I'm looking for. Let your body tell you when to take it, and how much.

The bottles usually say 100 mgs, 3 times daily.

Bonne chance (good luck)

Thanks for the info. I'm really nervous about taking something due to my tendency to react badly to a lot of medications, but I'll start with a lower dose and see how it goes.

I stopped taking 5-htp yesterday (money is so tight these days)

Scared of anxiety symptoms more than depression symptoms, but hopefully going off it won't be so bad.

I took 5htp for several months, I didn't noticed any differences, it's as good as a placebo in my opinion, but I do suffer extreme anxiety so perhaps it wasn't strong enough, I don't know. Give it a try though, it beats any of those awful SSRI's.
