Stuff like -
It's all in your head
If you just exercised...
You're not trying hard enough
Just distract yourself
Do you even want to get better?
Change your attitude
Just focus on the positive
Everyone feels ____ sometimes
Oh man, all of these. The sad part is that I usually get this kind of advice from therapists. The "you're not trying hard enough" and "do you want to get better?" ones piss me off the most. It's like, what the fuck am I paying you for? If I could help myself and it was just a matter of "trying harder," I wouldn't be seeking help. It's crazy how the people who are supposed to help us are often the ones perpetuating the stigma. The mental health system is such a fucking joke. I can't believe how useless some of these therapists are. I'm pretty sure most of the ones I've seen just got into their line of work because psych was an easy college major (IMO).

One time, I told my dad I was worried about something and all he told me was to let it go. That didn't help at all.

I swear those never help at all. It sucks that people think that life is so simple.

The worst advice I've ever been given was "be yourself."

In America, you're told to "be yourself," to "be unique," but from the very first moment you show any signs of differing from the social norm, you're shot down, ridiculed, or worse. The popular fad of today is calling anyone who has even the tiniest bit of individuality a "snowflake." I've seen this a lot on YouTube, mainly from young people, too. It's very depressing and has pretty much killed my hope that the human race was progressing beyond such things.

Pretend it didn't happen. Forget about it.

"it's never too late"
"put yourself out there"
"join a club"
"who you were in high school doesn't matter"

"you just have to try" <-- biggest fucking lie I was ever told.

"It gets better."

I feel like asking, oh, you can see the future? What even is "it?" It would be no different if you told me it gets worse. Monotonous hope
